Burton week 2007

28th July - 3rd August, Brixham

As I am sure you all know Brixham Yacht Club have agreed to host Burton Week in 2007, starting on Saturday 28 of July. Having now been to the venue and met the organising team I can tell you a bit more about it, and why I am getting pretty excited already.

  • It is the nicest town in Torbay, and yet with all of the holiday facilities of the area within easy reach for family and any non-sailing days.
  • The location means that the sailing area is less land affected than where the Royal Torbay and Paignton sail their events.
  • The clubhouse is spacious, with enough room to host most of the social events on site without being so big as to lose any atmosphere (i.e. bigger than Porthpean but not as soulless as South Caernarvonshire).
  • There is plenty of accommodation within a walk of the club, and it is meaningfully cheaper than most of the other venues we visit in the South-West. We are trying to negotiate cheap car-parking for those people that opt to live further away.

Expect more updates in the New Year, as we get more of the details finalised. Needless to say this event will be more fun for all if there is a big turnout, so put the date in the diary, book some accommodation and send in your entry form.

Accommodation

The following letting agent seems to have a decent selection of cottages and is offering to let at 2006 prices if you book for 2007 by the end of this month.

Feeling Foolish Party

Your attendance is requested at the Burton Week Thursday night social. It could be going down to the wire for the small number still fighting it out for overall glory of winning the coveted Silver National. However, for them and the rest of us there are things to do first.

LETS MAKE THIS THE LEGENDARY BRIXHAM FANCY DRESS PARTY.

Come as a Twelve, past or present, boat name or boat design. The boat you own, owned or wished you had owned. Sensational prizes will be found.

Invitations have already been sent and many characters have already replied. Come along and you may meet Miss Prism, her sisters Zoe, Alice, Liz, Bianca and Isabelle (now she’s a Slick Chick). The Curvaceous Lars Porsena of Clusium, together with Mr and Mrs Bill. Be warned of Crazy Jayne- still a Rough Diamond - and Nautilass (she always was a Hustler). Vlad the Impaler (a Man-o-war don’t you know) has intentions of attending and the Crusaders may also be coming together with the Hooligans. We hope they are careful with the China Dolls on the dance floor. Will the Cosmic Cowboy attend with his old friend Little John – Whatever happened to the Age of Consent?

Will Gypsy make it - she is an old girl now? We would be proud to be graced by an Uffa King or his alternates Frisky Admiral or Major Upset. Yes the Rumour is true - Uncle Stalky is rescheduling his family commitments, he is after Hanky Panky is old Lucky Jim although he insists it is Purely Platonic but others sense Scandal.

And from the ark the Tigers, Tigresses, Chimp, Mr Badger, Piglet, Bumblebee, The Mouser (at one time The Arouser), Fat Cat and The Cats Pyjamas. And is that a Python I can see in your Baggy Trousers? A Starfish or a March Hare, numerous Aardvarks - the possibilities are endless.

And the entertainment should be good with the Trick Cyclist, the Wizard, the Magician, the Bouncer and the Face Dancer.

Will there be food? There will certainly be Puddings and maybe a Sweet Pea, and will there be lager or just Green King, Cinzano and Shandy?

There may be a Casino, and you may the win Jackpot with your Royal Flush if your Lucky Numbers are up. When banking your winnings be wary of Smugglers.

And the Gill representative has a Cunning Plan to come as Brand Loyalty.

This is the Final Chapter please make an effort to come along. There is no Big Issue. Strike a Radical Posture like Radical Edward and get your 15 Minutes Of Fame. Do not fear about your Wild Front Ear or be Twice Shy, maybe come as a Mermaid or even Cinderella.

If this is not enough to inspire you, search the Twelve database on this website or even just come as yourself.
