I obtained Figgi from Tim Bushell, Birdham, Chichester in early 2005.

The boat had been dry stored in Birdham for approximately 25 years on a trolley that was too narrow.  Various things had been piled inside the boat for storage over the years and the resultant weight had caused two planks to be pushed upwards and damaged by the trolley bearers.  The decks were in very poor condition, with large bare patches and water staining.  I recall Tim telling me that he raced Figgi on the Thames when he was a medical student in London and that Figgi was the pet name for his wife (his girlfriend at this time?).  He apparently re-named the boat from its original name Koliwobbles (or Kolliwobbles?).  I don’t know if she was sailed in Chichester Harbour by Tim before being put in storage.

Figgi was restored to sailing condition in summer 2005.  Apart from the damaged planks and poor decks she was in great condition with no rot or soft spots and few modifications.  The decks were salvaged.

She was first owned by Julian Hereward and based at Frensham Pond Sailing Club.  She won a number of open meetings in 61/62, including Henley and Hayling.  (This info from a book on the history of FPSC).  How long she remained at Frensham I don't know.

Figgi was first sailed again on 20th August 2005 in Chichester Harbour.   I sailed her once more in 2005 and three times in 2006, each time in the harbour.  It was my ambition to race her but the arrival of children prevented me from sailing her as much as I would have liked.  She was always dry stored in my garage.

I recently made the reluctant decision to sell her as I needed a more suitable boat to teach my children to sail in and  it seemed a great shame that she was not being used.  Figgi was bought by Jonathan Bell of London on 13th March 2010.  He intends to race her at Henley Sailing Club where there is a fleet of N12s including vintage boats.  It’ll be good for her to return to the Thames and be sailed again.
