Scaling Dam SC Open Meeting and ANEYC TrophyEleven boats arrived at Scaling Dam to compete for first place in the open meeting and the ANEYC trophy. Conditions during the day varied from sunshine with a pleasant F2-3 to driving rain with gusts of F5 all combined with significant changes in wind direction. The first race saw a strong port bias on the start line that a lot of the fleet did not take advantage of. A beat down the length of the reservoir saw Mark and Emma Simpson (Aardvark Issues) first to the windward mark followed by Howard and Philip Steavenson (Not Another Aardvark) and Phil and Helen David (Wendy Windblows). Throughout the rest of the race Aardvark Issues pulled out a healthy lead still followed by Not another Aardvark, while the race for third place was closer with Wendy Windblows holding off the challenge from John and Alison Cheetham in Rebel. The second race saw much closer racing, again Aardvark Issues led at the windward mark, but only just from Rebel and Wendy Windblows with Not Another Aardvark in fourth place. An early capsize from Not Another Aardvark resulted in a retirement. By the end of the second beat Wendy Windblows had fought through to take the lead at the mark, Aardvark Issues hit the mark allowing Rebel through into second. At the second gybe mark Rebel gybed too early missing the mark to put Aardvark Issues back into second. The lead changed hands again on the next beat as Aardvark Issues snuck past Wendy Windblows. The lead was returned to Wendy Windblows at the second gybe mark as Aardvark Issues gybed badly and swam. At the gun Wendy Windblows won from Aardvark Issues and Rebel. The final race started with three boats in contention for first place. At the end of a close first beat Aardvark Issues led from Not Another Aardvark and Wendy Windblows. These positions were held until Not Another Aardvark took another dip allowing Wendy Windblows and Rebel through into second and third place. There was close racing going on throughout the rest of the fleet during all three races. In particular teams McInnes, Chadwick, Chignell and Simpson Snr had some good racing with McInnes coming out on top. Overall Positions
