Whilst the hardy Thames Area N12 sailors are chomping at the bit for this weekend's Ranelagh Winter Race and hoping the thermometer might rise above zero, thoughts turn to spring, which has been known to (occasionally) make an appearance at the annual Hamble Warming Pan regatta, this year taking place on 16th/17th March and offering the chance of a final tune up before the GUL Series kicks off at Burghfield the following weekend.
The first Hamble Warming Pan regatta was held in 1962 when there were just two competing classes, Merlin Rockets and National 12 dinghies. Over the years the invite list expanded until eight classes were invited to attend in 2002. Racing is held in the lower reaches and mouth of the River Hamble and is run by Hamble River Sailing Club, based near the centre of Hamble village. Racing will start and finish on the Hamble River Sailing Club line for Merlin Rocket (Sunday only), Firefly, National 12, Enterprise, Albacore & Foxer classes. NOR will be posted on the club website. Visitors to the village will be able to watch the competing dinghies at many vantage points along the river banks. On Saturday night the club will be hosting an event with plenty of food and drink to go round.

Just a bump up reminder for this event next weekend. 4 races over 2 days. Single day entry is available, so if you can't make both days, pop down for at least one. 11.30 start Saturday, 11.00 start Sunday. Hope the weather has warmed up a bit by then.
This is the 2nd in the 10 event Thames Area 2013 series and the first of a triple blitz with Burghfield and Shoreham to follow on subsequent weekends. Jon Ibbotson leads after Ranelagh.

As Nick cannot get up in the mornings we are coming down Friday evening so hopeing I can get the boat in the dinghy park.

Only 2 boats competed on the Saturday and 4 on the Sunday. No doubt the unpredictable weather put some off and I can confirm that the Sunday was wet and light. Nobody could be roused to start the final race. Geoff and Amelia cruised over from Warsash to win all 3 races sailed. Results:
1. N3515 Geoff & Amelia Camm
2. N3528 Nick Copsey & Steve
3. N3491 Mike & Sophie Storey
4. N3493 Chris & Ellen Flewitt
Burghfield will be better!!
