Title: rudder fittings
Post by: SScam on 15 Jul 2020, 01:28
two questions (newbie ones probably)!
1: Are there 'standard' rudder fittings for winged rudders that you can buy 'off the shelf'?
2: can some post some photos of the set up used on the latest boats?

Hi,

Which N12 are you looking to retro-fit a T foil rudder on?

For your ref:

1) The DCBs tend to have the same fittings and work as per this video:

2) There are a few photos of various retro-fits in this album on flickr:

3) If you click through these photos, you can see the setup on my DCB, which is similar to those that Simon Hipkin has re-fitted:

The system I used when retro fitting to a pipedream was two gudgeons on the hull and two on the rudder with I think an 18mm stainless steel rod with a pin top and bottom to stop it falling out the bottom or rising up. It is important that at least one of the gudgeons on the rudder is under the gudgeon on the transom. I did it with both underneath, this is probably not necessary and made fitting the rudder very fiddly. I can probably find a photo if you are interested.

Hope these help. They were taken to show off flapper rather than rudder fittings.
