Dangly pole

I think where you will find a 1.3m pole will let you down is when goose winged it will be more difficult to keep the jib filling. If you havn't got a suitable piece of aliuminium I suggest you try this place http://www.aluminiumwarehouse.co.uk/Aluminium-Round_Tube/c120_131/index.html
I havn't actually ordered from them but they appear pretty cheap. Of course if you want carbon I am sure you can pick up a perch rod or landing net handle off ebay but I am not sure you will notice a great increase in speed for the extra bucks.8)
Dangly poles have also been made out of broom handles quite succesfully although they are a bit short......about 1.3m if my memory is right (It not often is ).

Thought the class might be interested to know that the dangly pole has made it to New Zealand. Last time I was down there I was discussing the concept with a J14 sailor who promptly went and fitted one to his boat.
We haven't made it to NZ full time yet but I have a nice length of high modulus carbon tube in the garage ready.
