Spider was bought by Mike and Fiona Barron after the Scarborough Burton and sailed at Loch Tummel, see picture in the yearbook in the club section. Not entirely sure where it went after that but Dad always enjoyed sailing it. If anyone knows where it is now I would love to see any pictures.

Magic,
thanks for all the advice, I will keep an eye out for things popping up, and if I win the lottery, then might get a new set!

Hello,

a bit new here, but have just purchased 3250, which has a Super Spars mast and a very tired set of P&B sails. Hoping to sail her at Loch Tummel with my daughter, in between other things, and will need some new sails at some point, not likely to be looking for perfect set up, but don't want something that doesn't fit/work at all.
If was after a new, or newer set, would I be able to buy them off the shelf, or is the luff curve for the carbon masts different?
On the same vein, would a good second hand suit from a newer boat be worth the money?, or would I need a set specifically for a metal mast.
Not desperate for them now, as daughter is only one and a half!, but would like some advice.

Built by Alistair Calder for son Hamish, sailed regularly at the time including good placings at Burton Week. Lovely boat, or it was the last time I saw it!

I remeber this boat when it was owned by Scott and Nicky MacLaren and sailed at Loch Tummel. It tended to live up to its name and fallt o bits regularly!

Bought from new by Gilmour Cumming and sailed at Loch Tummel SC, then purchased by Mike Barron, who then sold it to Nick Horsfall, after that I have no idea where it is now. It was one of the epoxy versions of the Design 8

Bought from Storrar and Bax by Mike Barron, in 19??. He then sold it when he was offered to buy 3334. 3293 was the polyester version, and 3334 was the Epoxy version. I think that Ian Annan bought it and it was sailed at Loch Tummel, but after that I don't know.

Not entirely sure if my dad bought it new, but it was certainly owned by Mike and Fiona Barron in the 70's, it was then sold to the late Jeremy and Annie Gillingham. It was sailed at Loch Tummel, and the last time I saw it, it was in the Gillinghams garden in Perth. I am not sure what happened to it after that.
It was red, and named after the Foggie Toddler Bumble Bee, the honey coloured ones

This was the first National Twelve that I sailed. My dad (Mike Barron) had loads of twelves, and this was his second glass one. It was called 'High Stakes' when we had it, it was sailed for years at Loch Tummel. Dad then sold it to Richard and Phillip Harvey, when he bought a Design 8 3293.
I saw it sitting at Largs a couple fo years ago, and am very glad to hear that it is being brought back to life
