Messages - Roly Mo

A new owner and home is needed for N3447 Roly Mo - she saw v little use last year as we have been sailing the D8 and Sparklet, and it's time she had a nice new owner who will enjoy sailing her.  Full details in the For Sale section.

and if/when you capsized your sails came up with a black film on them.  It always paid to keep your mouth shut to avoid that nice carbon taste . . . .  Oh happy days!

We are hoping to be able to make a 1 night only appearance for the Jenny Lee, en route to Wroxham for the Vintage meeting.

We will be there, though Dan and I will be sailing the 'big boat' rather than the 12.  The handicapping issues have caused me interest too!

Antony is right re the climb back on to the side decks,  and getting things like toe straps properly set up is incredibly important if the child crew is to gain confidence in their ability to sit out.  E is now happy to hike out pretty hard and I have to say that when we got back in the boat together for the Frostbite series (we've been sailing single handed in other boats during the Autumn series) it was noticeable how much more 'in control' she was and how a couple of inches of growth have made a big difference to ability to get out, and to tack quickly.  I still give the jib that tug - but am now told it's not necessary (and she's probably right!)

Sailing the 12 with James and now Ellie has been fantastic.  James was about 10 when he started crewing, Ellie much younger.  The 12 is great for young crews because there's loads of room (not like the Mirror) for helm and crew and the jib is small and therefore easy to handle.  It does help if the helm can reach the cleats for the jib, if only to give it an extra yank when going upwind (interestingly Ellie now does this to crews who sail with her - what a dreadful example to have set!!).  Ellie (now 10) is happy to helm our Sparklet and D8 in light winds and I am pretty convinced that within a couple of years I will have lost the right to helm in the D8 and she will have someone crewing for her.  She's crewed in our DB Chapter and in many ways is the best size for the Chapter as she can actually manage to sit on the thwart in comfort!
Happy sailing

PS  N3447 is for sale - a great boat at a great price!

Ripon SC will be holding their usual Frostbite series throughout November and December and it looks as though there may be a number of 12's taking part, and we'd love more to come and join us.  There will be 3 races each Sunday in November (first start 11am) and 2 races per day in December (again an 11am start).  The galley will be open serving breakfast rolls and a hot meal at lunch time.
If you want any more details please get in touch, Ellie and I are looking forward to some good sailing and hoping that we don't get the freezing conditions which we had last year!

Sorry, it's a miss for us

So far the turnout looks disappointingly low - us, Ian sailing a boat borrowed from the Chadwick collection, Chadders, Gatti-man and Paul Turner.  Is that really going to be the sum total of the competitors?  Surely not!

Attendance unlikely - I need the points in our club Autumn series and so does the child!

We will be offering a full galley service during the day, including bacon and sausage sandwiches pre sailing, a hot lunch (still making up our minds on what this will be) and cakes later on.  I am more than happy to organise something in the evening subject to sufficient interest - can people who'd like an evening meal (which can be served early if it helps) let me know?  We also have some very nice local ale on at the moment!

Some of our spare crews have already been nabbed - if you are going to need a crew get in touch soon or they will all be snapped up!
