Paul,
I am sad to hear that Jane has passed away. Our thoughts are with you, Hester, Guy, Freya and the rest of the family. I have fond memories of sailing at 2 Burton weeks (1985 & 1986) with Jane and still remember her first championship race win as it was also my first race win and a special moment that I will always remember. I hoped in some way it may have made up for the scar she got the year before at Tynemouth on the 2nd infamous Tynemouth Tuesday.

Paul, Thank you for letting us know. I hadn't seen Martin for a while and last time I spoke to him he was preparing himself for another session of treatment, which he wasn't looking forward to, but as always remained positive that he would beat it. Martin had a real passion for National 12s, not only sailing them, but also rescuing neglected and abandoned boats. I lost count of how many N12s are still on the water rather than consigned to the bonfire. He always did a thorough job stripping them to bare wood and returning them to fantastic condition. Martin continued to do this right through his illness and I always enjoyed hearing about his latest project. Martin will be missed by all who knew him and our thoughts are with Tracy, Ellie and Matt.

Duncan,
If the foot of your mast is not coming down square to the mast step it will induce a bend one way or the other. If the load is coming through the front it will induce an inversion. Worth checking.

General National 12 chat / Ivatt Sallis
27 Mar 2019, 08:56
It is with great sadness that I post the news that my dad, Ivatt Sallis, died on 21/1/19. He was the eldest of the three Sallis brothers (Ivatt, Martin and David) from Ely Sailing Club, who sailed National 12s from around 1950 to the 1980s. Many who sailed National Twelves around that time will no doubt have known him through competing at open meetings, North West Norfolk Week and Burton week.

Ian,
I think the thing about the chapter is that Mike Jackson designed it to have additional lift at the transom from the massive buoyant rudder he used, so adding the lift from the winged foil does similar, but with probably less drag. Other designs like the foolish do go quick with a winged rudder, but I don't think they can take the amount of lift that a DCB, Hijack or Chapter can.

Tom,
Mike Hoyle was the first owner. He might remember the colour, but it would have been about 1998 when it was built.

Hykeham SC N12 Open meeting postponned

Unfortunately due to the low anticipated turnout we have taken the decision to postpone the Hykeham SC N12 open meeting planned for  Sunday 17th April. The event may be re-arranged for another date or may be cancelled completely.
If anyone knows of anyone who is still living in the 1980s and does not do Internet or Email etc. and may have been intending to turn up, can you pass on the message.

Food and drink will be available throughout the day and we look forward to seeing as many of you that can make it. If you can let me know if you plan to come that would help with the organisation.
