The top five in the 2010 Eastern Area Series are confrimed as:
1st 3528 J Ibbottson
2nd 3526 T Stewart
3rd 3457 P Pelling
4th 3348 A Gifford
5th 3500 J Garner

The counting events this year were: Waldringfield, Up River, RHYC  and Aldeburgh. Has anyone got any sensible suggestions for 2011? Is anyone interested in a vintage series next year ?

Please don't forget the Aldeburgh Yacht Club Open on the 10th & 11th July. Come and sail on the East Coast's finest river, you won't regret it. The event is part of the vintage series with at least 7 eligible craft expected including some ribbed examples.
2 Races on Saturday afternoon and 3 on Sunday (timing to be agreed). 3 races to count.
There is a meal at the Club on Saturday evening. We will be dining with the RS 400 sailors who are mostly harmless. I will try to attach the menu, set 3 course meal £12.50 with the best restaurant view in Town.
For more information please call me an I will try to help, my number is in the book.
See you at Aldeburgh, John Chalker
PLEASE NOTE THE MENU HAS CHANGED TO

Liver Pate
Beef Bourguignon
Summer Pudding
£`13.75

A recurring thread, but can anyone help? I have just replaced the gasket on 3434 with 50mm mylar and sikaflex 292. It was perfect upto the point of retracting the board. I now have some shedded strips of mylar, a part used tube of glue and a cut finger. What else can I try? Will a sail cloth gasket stick to a plastic hull? Fed up and wanting to go sailing. Sensible offers for a nearly finished Baggy T considered, all it needs is a slot gasket, how hard can that be?

Can anyone advise on how far the back edge of the thwart in a Baggy T should be from the transom? N3434 would appear to have had a thwart added at some point in her life and it appears to me to be too far aft.
I have three options:

  • leave it where it is. quick and easy
  • move it forward . time consuming and I want to go racing
  • take it out . Any potential problems?
Picture N3434 and N760 being swapped around in the drive.....

General National 12 chat / Frozen epoxy
16 Feb 2010, 08:58
Now the weather is a bit warmer I have ventured out to the garage (unheated)to start making floor boards for the old boat. My epoxy resin and pump had solidified into a white lump. The hardener was still liquid and after heating the offending lump it to returned to a clear flowing liquid. Can anyone advise on how the cured epoxy will perform, if it does cure at all? Should I replace the pump and resin before I glue the mast back together?

General National 12 chat / "scooter"
08 Oct 2009, 11:53
Just rescued from 10 years storage in a shed. Back on the water with an assortment of bits and pieces, including a home made rudder and stock..... Where have all the other scooters gone? How much sand will they hold?

General National 12 chat / Windy!
22 Aug 2009, 07:24
N3400 was the only 12 sailing entered in Aldeburgh regatta this year. On friday the fast handicap started at 14.40 and at 14.42 a gust of 44.6 mph flattened the fleet except for one small white boat....An awsesome display of high wind sailing and boat construction. It couldn't have been much different just down the coast at Mersea.....

I have now wasted 2 weeks waiting for an order from "marinemegastore". Having chased them after 5 days standard delivery expired they have finally come clean and admitted that none of the material ordered is in stock! No progress on the old boat for too long now.
Just reordered from P&B... my mistake in the first place

The Yachts and yachting attendance table illustrates just how successful the Burton Week format was this year.  2009 will be a difficult act to follow in future years......

Can anyone explain how the stem fitting (removed from N760) should work? Looks like it should tension the jib Luff? There is a pulley on the central fulcrum...

General National 12 chat / slot gasket
15 Apr 2008, 08:40
Please help. My last task this spring is to fit a new slot gasket to Rising Damp. Should I glue the gasket in place, then cut the mylar on the centreline or mark and cut the mylar on the bench and stick to boat ( holding edges together with tape?) . If I cut the slot when stuck to the boat, any tips on how to cut a straight line? Any general slot gasket advice ? Hull looks much better without bilge battons. Too many screws in keel that I couldn't remove....
