Hi,
after having seen burton week from a distance this weekend (I live in weymouth! And yes, I know - but I couldn't get away from work anyway:(), and the other half showing an interest in going sailing with me I am seriously considering getting another 12.  Been sailing a lark recently and had alot of club success, but its not the same is it:)! We are going to be on the heavy side (21-23 stone) but I think it'll be more fun, plus "Run Fat Boy Run" has just joined WSC so there could be some competition.
If there is anyone mad enough to want to swap / part ex either a crusader/D8/early AC final chapter/man-o-war then I would be very interested in hearing from them, as I do really need to clear the lark first. Somewhere around the £800 - £1200 mark tops really. Alternatively if there is a good project for very little money I may go down that route for next season.
Cheers

I am currently replacing my mast and have the old mast with the spreader height quite high and the (second hand!) replacement donated from a lark having the spreaders much lower. Is there an optimum height people are going for? I'm guessing with the spreaders lower down the  lower - middle of the mast will be stiffer?

Just found my compass for the 12 is leaking quite badly, it might work ok but its pretty wrecked to be honest. how important is it for finding our way at burton week? Im figuring not "too" essential but thought i should check!

Has anyone thought of doing Weymouth Regatta? I will be with my 12 this year and I noticed one on the results for last year. Any other takers? it's the 11th and 12th of July. I ve always been on a yacht for it but fancy a change!
website is www.weymouth-regatta.org for more info

Does anyone know where to source the post that supports the mast at the front of a road base? I figured I could get one that U bolts on but don't seem to be able to find any.

I.m Getting towards the end of my (much more extensive than planned!) refit to 3255- a newer set of sails, the centreboard re profiled and paint/cosmetics to the hull, so do I need to completely remeasure since all the weights and sail dimensions are different? If so who is willing and nearest to Weymouth?!!?

Cheers for the input!

General National 12 chat / space frame
30 Nov 2008, 11:35
Just looking into putting the baggy indoors for a month early next year to address some of its other issues (frayed kness etc!) and one thing I would like to do is remove the space frame to try and tidy it up since it has seen better days. It looks to be straight forward but are there any pitfalls to doing so? I would think the boat isnt just going to fold up on me when it is out but first times for things like this are always good at catching you out!

cheers

General National 12 chat / AC swamping
17 Nov 2008, 05:47
Having just got my baggy going I took her for a quick test sail but also did a bit of a swamp test recently (not the cert. one - not many bodies about, any suggestions on alternatives there by the way?!!?) for piece of mind etc etc.
I know that they should sit low in the water when swamped, and the transom is under etc, but I wonder about the CB casing allowing water in whilst swamped, as it is below the water, and how will that affect the drainage of the boat once righted? Is it a problem? I found an excellent thread from 06 which gave a good account of the method for AC boats but some extra pearls of wisdom would be appreciated!
Also the Boat I have, 3255, looks to have once had an aft tank like many baggy trousers, but was removed in favour of bags. The ones that came with the boat were so big i would have had to join the crew in the front! So I have a pair now which match what I had in my last 12. The way I have fitted the bags means they sit quite high towards the gunwale, is this a problem? Or because they sit so low when swamped anyway it makes little difference?
Many thanks!

General National 12 chat / needlespar
24 May 2008, 01:06
Can anyone help with the setting up of a needlespar mast!
I've got a general gist of what sorts of things i need to get my head round but I wondered if there were any numbers or ideas that would help?

Has anybody got some recent pictures of some vintage 12's? i' m in the process of slowly restoring one and would like to see what other people have done with them.

Cheers
