Hi Everyone, looking forward to welcoming you to Welland Yacht Club on the 4th July. The first of three races kicks off at 11.30am.

Directions to the club can be found at http://www.wellandyachtclub.co.uk/contact_us.htm the Google map also give you a pretty good indication of the water we sail on. Narrow but varied and long, really improves the tacking skills! The event was new to the circuit last year but proved very popular with those that attended

We plan to provide rolls for lunch within the entry fee (£10) as well a bacon sandwiches before the start. If anyone wishes to camp over on the Saturday there's plenty of room at the club just let me know in advance.

To assist with organisation can those attending post a reply please,
look forward to seeing as many of you as possible

We plan to provide rolls for lunch within the entry fee (£10) as that seemed to work well at Hykeham (a great event Steve), is everyone happy with that? If anyone wishes to camp over on the saturday there's plenty of room at the club just let me know in advance.

General National 12 chat / Tiger Trophy

Has anyone entered the Tiger Trophy at Rutland before?
It takes place on the 7th & 8th of February this year and am thinking of entering but wondered if anyone had any feedback from previous years
(have decided the only way to get better is by competing in as many big events as possible)

Now winter's arrived I've turned to thinking what needs doing to improve our Feeling Foolish (3465)and most thoughts centre around the current outhaul arrangement with which we have never been entirely happy. In it's current form it gives us three main problems
1 there is not enough purchase for the crew to be able to pull it on hard when sailing in a blow going from a reach to a beat
2. in a bid to make the foot of the sail slide easily i added a sries of 'stoppers' (balls) to the outhaul bridle which helped but it has caused the boom to now be 6 cm lower meaning i get hit by it on most tacks (maybe I'm just too old?)
3.The outhaul doesn't slide back up the boom anything like as easily it does on my laser (this has elastic to pull it back)
So: Ideas please to improve all these points in one go, I guess the boat currently has an 'out of the box' set up with the outhaul controlled from both sides of the thwart to a single line that appears to travel inside the boom as a straight 1 to 1 puchase, then out the end of the boom through the hole in the foot of the sail and ties off on the end of the boom. The sail is held to the boom via a shackle attacked to the rope bridle threaded though the above mentioned stoppers
Would a standard HD laser set up work or are there better solutions?
ps Also is it easy to get the centreboard out as I need to replace one of the screws in the friction plate as its bent and i cant get to it in situ

All suggestions greatfully received :-/

Hi,

My Crusader came with a fairly new Sea Sure rudder and blade, not the lightest in the world and the blade looks (and feels) to big. Before I attack it with a saw and surform can anyone advise on the correct shape, at present its has conventional parallel lines with a square bottom. I plan to use the P & B rudder bag as a template, will this work?

Andy P N3353

ps new Alverbanks arrived on Christmas Eve and plan to do most of the Gill series next year, just need to lose some weight (both me and the boat) now :)

Hi,

I have a nice Crusader 88 (3353) but i noticed on Sunday that the bow wasn't cutting through the water as cleanly as it used to. On closer inspection I found that the brass strip that runs down the bow from the deck to the bottom of the hull had taken a small knock and was slighly bent and off centre. Iin addition one of the screws had split the solid wooden section (sorry don't know its proper name) very slightly.

Before I just straighten the strip and screw it back on can anyone tell if it does anything? It seems to me that the boat would have a smoother bow section and be lighter without it. I guess it might not be quite so strong but the bow section looks pretty strong (unless its hollow) as it is.

After experiencing our first nose dive on a sreaming reach on Sunday anything we can do to keep the nose bouyant would help

Congratulations to the organisers of the 70th - our first National 12 event but definately not our last, really enjoyed it and can't wait to do another. Can anyone tell me are there any photos for the Saturday as we could only sail on that day, I've seen the brilliant photos for Sunday on the site but can't see any for Saturday?

Andy :)
