A new owner and home is needed for N3447 Roly Mo - she saw v little use last year as we have been sailing the D8 and Sparklet, and it's time she had a nice new owner who will enjoy sailing her.  Full details in the For Sale section.

Ripon SC will be holding their usual Frostbite series throughout November and December and it looks as though there may be a number of 12's taking part, and we'd love more to come and join us.  There will be 3 races each Sunday in November (first start 11am) and 2 races per day in December (again an 11am start).  The galley will be open serving breakfast rolls and a hot meal at lunch time.
If you want any more details please get in touch, Ellie and I are looking forward to some good sailing and hoping that we don't get the freezing conditions which we had last year!

Ripon SC will host it's annual National 12 open meeting on Saturday 1 October and with Yeadon SC holding their meeting the following day there is the opportunity to have a great weekend of sailing in glorious Yorkshire.
Ripon's meeting will comprise 3 races (2 to count) with the first start at 11am and the briefing to competitors at 10.45am.  The galley will be open all day and we've some excellent local ale on sale in the bar for that after race (or perhaps between race) snifter.
Camping is available at the club on the Saturday night - please let us know if you wish to take advantage of this.  Crews are also likely to be available but we need a couple of weeks notice to get folk organised so please bear that in mind.  Early requests will get you the chance of sailing with some of our very good juniors!
Hope to see a great turnout,
Mrs RM

Just to remind you, Ripon SC will host a Vintage 'handicap' meeting on 2 July 2011.  There will be 3 races, with 2 to count and the handicaps for races 2 and 3 will be based on results from race 1 (with some number crunching by Howard and Tim over lunch).  The first race will start at 11am.
If anyone needs a crew for this event they are asked to get in touch asap, and by 25 June at the latest.  We are just waiting for some final information before sending the NOR to Graham for posting on the website.
It would be lovely to know how many boats/helms/crews are coming along to join in the fun,

We suspect that as a club we are going to be forced to look at e-payment of club subscription fees at some point in the future - does anyone use this type of technology now?  Particularly interested in systems other than Paypal.

Ripon SC will be hosting a Handicap Open meeting on Sunday 17 April 2011.  It's open to monohulled dinghies with a PY of 1000+ and an overall length of 15ft or under.  3 races with 2 to count, first start 11am.  Further details coming soon, put the date in your diary as we'd love to see a good number of 12's on the water.  Ellie and I will be sailing, probably in N3334 but if the conditions are right N3447 might be out and about.:)

I bought a couple of these from Ovington a long time ago, and found them absolutely fanstastic.  Fitted under the mast foot and allowed you to fix things like the kicker to the plate.  Has anyone any ideas where I could get one now?

Ripon Sailing Club are delighted to welcome the National 12 ‘Gill’ fleet to their N12 open meeting to be held on Saturday 2 October 2010.    In addition to the Gill series the event qualifies for the 2010 Vintage and Northern Series.

There will be 3 races sailed during the day, with 2 to count.   Racing will commence at 11am with a briefing at 10.30am.

Camping is available at the club on Saturday night (no need to book in advance for this) and on Friday night by prior arrangement (give me a call or email me).   Helms who want to make it a weekend event are reminded that Yeadon SC, just 20 minutes away, will hold their Open Meeting the following day.

We have a new Caterer at the club and she is looking forward to providing you with food and drink throughout the day.  A supper will be served after sailing and the bar will be open throughout the evening.

It would be great to know if you are coming along, a briefing document is in the final stages of preparation and will be posted on the website soon.

Not exactly a 12 but needs to find a new home so we can make space to look after a Ribby for Tim.  Good condition, complete with spray dodger, pump, thwart and nearly new oars.  £550.
We have had great fun with this boat, it was Ellie's first introduction to the delights of being afloat!

As Tim has mentioned in his 'New Year Address' I'd like to hand over the co-ordination and production of the calendar having done it for the last 2 years.  Before anyone runs away with the idea that I'm taking up the reins of Commodore of RSC this year, it's not planned till 2011 and will only then happen if I'm elected but I think it is time for someone else to take on the calendar and to do so when I've got time to support them.  It's not a huge amount of work, it all takes place in October/November and it's relatively easy to do.  The area reps do most of the work, and the most difficult bit is putting it together into the final document.  If you think you might be interested in taking the task on please get in touch,

I know we havn't yet got into 2010, but we wanted to give this year's Scottish Championship event an extra push so, having already booked the Daisybus onto the Kippford Holiday Park site for the weekend, we thought we'd see if we could drum up some more trade!
For those who don't know it, Kippford is a small village on the Solway Coast.  It's easily accessible from the M74 (turn off at Gretna, marriage at the Blacksmith's Shop is optional) and we know from past experience that the team at Solway Yacht Club will run us a first class event.  The sailing area offers some great sea sailing with good winds and there's plenty for the non-sailors to do whilst we are bobbing up and down on the briny stuff.
The Scottish Champs have been deliberately timed to coincide with an English Bank Holiday (late August) so that we don't all have to rush south (sorry Angus but you get other bank holidays) immediately after sailing has finished and can travel home at leisure on the Monday.  If you are tempted to stay longer you will find it's a wonderful venue for a holiday.  We are currently producing a briefing note with accommodation details and will have that on the website by the end of January, but in the meantime if anyone has any questions about the event post them here and we will try and answer them.
Given adequate notice the club are great at finding crews so don't let the lack of a crew put you off coming!

When it arrives you will understand . . . .  We asked for PALE lilac but the definition of pale seems to have perplexed the printer.  At least you won't lose it in a hurry!
Our grateful thanks to ICM who is going out of his way tonight to collect them and get them to Mike Brookman tomorrow.

General National 12 chat / 2010 Events

We have now started putting together the calendar of events for 2010 and area reps are currently looking at where and when we will race, with Tom and Charlotte looking at which events will comprise the 2010 Gill programme.
If you want a meeting at YOUR club in 2010 you need to make sure that your area rep is aware of this - it would be tremendously useful if you could suggest some suitable dates too.  There are various pressures on us this year to get the programme agreed by the end of October so it can be typeset by 11 November.

Just a quick reminder that Ripon will host their annual open meeting on Saturday 10 October, followed by Yeadon's open on Sunday 11th.  The NOR for the Ripon event is on the RSC website (http://www.ripon-sc.org.uk/documents/NOR_N12_09.doc) and we'd be delighted to see any DB's, AC's and Vintage boats there.  Camping will be available at the club (but please give us advance notification if you intend to camp as we will need to arrange to be there too) and there will be the usual meal in the clubhouse (bar open too) on the Saturday night.

If anyone fancies some sociable sailing on 20 and 21 June they would be most welcome to join in the Regatta at Ripon SC.  There will be 6 races over the 2 days (3 each day), 3 to count so you can qualify if you just do one day.  Racing starts 11.15am each day, £5 entry fee for non members.  BBQ and Disco in the evening with the promise of real ale and a bar extension through to midnight.  BBQ tickets are £5 for adults and £3.50 for children.  Camping is available on the field throughout the weekend.  Get in touch if you are interested in coming along, it would be great to have a good fleet of 12's out (and as Tynemouth has been moved to the end of August it's a free weekend in the N12 Northern Diary!

I know we havn't yet sailed the 2009 event, but we are soon going to need ideas for a venue for 2010, so this is your chance to stump up your favourite venue.  The venue should ideally be inland, somewhere which has 12's, and it will need to be able to cope with a large fleet, probably in late June/early July.  Camping on site is pretty high on the list of priorities too!
Any suggestions gratefully received!

Did anyone else spot what looked like a Gill sticker on one of the cars at the GP?
