Thanx all.  Tom says D12 is fine, V12 is the really sexy stuff, and that 4mm is easier to splice than 3mm.  Ordered!
Now I'll be reading those splicing instructions extra-carefully.

Cheers,
Matt

Quick techie question, what size D12 am I after for the shrouds?  The bit of the cascade that's "closest to the wire" that is.  The stuff I have atm looks like it's about 4mm by ruler, but I hear the stuff comes up bigger than nominal.  Does that mean it's 3mm line really?

While I'm at it, is V12 the right stuff?  As far as I can tell from the specs D12 is a little bit less strechy and a bit less strong?

Cheers,
Matt

Joe and I are coming along... and Adam wants to come but not to sail.  Will there be any spare parents / partners / whatever around who could maybe keep a weather eye on Adam while we sail?  (he's 9 and will probably amuse himself the whole time, just I'd rather he had somebody to go to!)
Thanks,
Matt

We'll go along tomorrow.  A question for those who know the way... Google says go M32 then A road down to Cheddar (A38 I think).  Should I believe it, or is the M5 better?

General National 12 chat / Bristol?

Hi all,
Is there anything going on on the Saturday at Bristol?  For some reason I put training in my calendar, but perhaps I made it up?  Thinking of making a 2-day trip of it.

Hi Alistair,
I used to use it to force prebend on in a drifter, then
use it to hold the mast fairly straight as soon as there was more than
3 or 4 knts of wind, then induce some bend again once we ran out of
other ways to depower.
Never used to disconnect it at all, just put the rig tension on with it attached then adjust.

Downwind
- I don't remember having played with it much. Best to just ease the
shrouds to let the mast more upright / straighter without needing to
change the screw. But we only used to release the leeward shroud... I
imagine if you released the windward one to too much try to rake the
whole mast forward things could get a bit hairy unless you wound the
screw forward too. Sounds like too much faffing to be worth it to me ;-)

We'll be along.  I will probably have both boys in tow, so if anybody needs a crew Adam could be willing for the training at least.  He's probably happiest in an A/C...

Hi Alistair,
I always thought it was a Proctor, but thinking about it I'm not sure what evidence I had for that.  Sorry!
Hope you're still having fun sailing her

We're going to wait and see on the weather for this one...  if it's really 20mph might not come as neither Adam or Joe would appreciate that much breeze.

Yep, sorry David.  In the end it took me 3 or 4 hours of driving to Halfords / Kwik fit and back on Sunday morning, trying to find an inner tube for my obsolete trailer wheels.

A word to anyone else in the same position: I eventually figured out that launching trolley wheels also have inner tubes in them and they're about the right size.  30 minutes of struggling with improvised tyre levers and we were on our way.  I shall know next time :-(

Olton was a lot of fun last year, 5 short races squeezed in by a small fleet, and a great informal and friendly atmosphere.

I'll be there with No 2 crew, who I've been promising a chance to do an open again since South Cerney.  So No 1 crew, 5 stone of willing 10y/o will be available if anyone wants a lightweight to put in the front of your boat!  You just gotta promise not to tire him out so we're good for Twickenham too.  Oh, and he'll tell you off if you don't sail flat enough :-)
