There is a meal at the Club on Saturday evening. We will be dining with the RS 400 sailors who are mostly harmless. I will try to attach the menu, set 3 course meal £12.50 with the best restaurant view in Town.
For more information please call me an I will try to help, my number is in the book.
See you at Aldeburgh, John Chalker
PLEASE NOTE THE MENU HAS CHANGED TO

Hi John I think I emailed you a while ago.  I can make it with my Starfish Triarda but currently I have no crew, any chance of finding one locally who doesnt mind sailing with an old fat bloke?  I will give you a ring to follow up, meant to do it earlier this evening (and last)! Howard C aka Chadders

John

A compensatory 6 to 8 stone fit crew would be good but beggars cant be choosers and anyone who is fun to sail with and not too competitive would be fine.  many thanks.  Howard  PS Sarah says they also need to be able to put up with a grumpy old man! I think she is confusing me with Paul Turner.

Howard grumpy?  Never!
We need 4 more places for the meal on Saturday night as Bernard's crew, Judith Hart (ex ASC member), husband, daughter (crewing for Tim), and daughter's husband are joining the party.  Ellie and I are going to WOBYC for the weekend (Miss Clark wants to go and do some Tera training) but will be at Aldeburgh for the meal.
Now bringing 2 N12's and a Tera - the logistics are still being worked on!

Greetings from TVSC! Christine and I intend being there with a vintage yot, probably Starfish N2020 but possibly Shotgun N2359! Having a bit of trouble finding suitable B&B for Saturday night (and I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO CAMP!). Px :K)
PS - just how many peeps are coming out to play??? It's a long from Trent Valley - 4 hours and nearly 200 miles and there's only Chadders to play with?

Looks as though 443 will emerge from shed and meander up the coast. Will pitch yurt on forshore and communicate with Oden in the evening or maybe hit the bar.  Is it Adnams or Watneys Red Barrel here? She will have to travel with a few gallons of best Brightlingsea muddy water  sloshing around in her to caulk the lands. Its been a dry couple of years in her tin shed.
My local crew sounds very keen and is not afraid of the wet stuff so expect energetic roll tacking!  Last time I tried that in 443 she rolled through 360 deg in the wink of an eye.  But at least her centreplate stayed put!  However, I think the Alde might only allow 270deg so it could be mucky sails for me!
I look forward to seeing you all either in or on the water.

I look forward to seeing you all there for a great summer weekend

Jonathan

The beer is from Southwold and there will be enough water in the middle of the river to wash your sails. There is also plenty of silty mud  at the edges, so no need to bring some from Brightlingsea

Ooooh, goody, Adnams.
Today I ate my lunch sitting in the sun on a bench overlooking the beach outside B'sea clubhouse so with a minute or two to spare I chucked a couple of buckets of muddy seawater into 443 and hope she will take up a bit. It trickled out all over the shot.  I will do the same after sailing tomorrow night and hope for the best.  We had rain earlier today but i am afraid this unseasonal warm sunny weather is due to return to this the driest part of the country.  It bodes well for a warm breezy saturday and a warm calm Sunday. Aldeburgh visitors should remember their sun cream, hats and bathing suits.  Kite flying from the beach could be interesting on saturday.

Setting off from York tomorrow am.  Can already smell the sea and Adnams (better than epoxy).  Just going to finnish fixing the centreboard, pack up the 12, pack up Ellie's Tera, collect the van and try to get some proper work done.

They aren't, and if they are then i will sit outside with team RM.  There will be a bunch of RS sailors around so we will probably be the smart table.

And here's me just finished pressing dinner suit trousers and dress shirt.  I shall not bother buffing up the cuff links with brasso.
Earlier I had a lovely evening sail at Brightlingsea.  Incoming tide, very warm, all sorts of seabirds calling and sat on our liitle beach watching the sunset drinking a glass of, yes you guessed it, Adnams.

What an absolutely brilliant weekend.  It will go on our list of 'must go to' venues.  Have never gone so fast in my old boat, and loved seeing Tim's pics yesterday afternoon.  Just waiting for Mrs C to upload hers.
Thanks to everyone who helped organise and to all the competitors for making it such fun.

RM
PS  Special thanks to John C for the sticky stuff needed when my reckless crew decided to pull the thwart out!

Terrific weekend and a big thank you to all concerned. And to those who came from far afield this was a typical sailing weekend on the East Coast! I have just looked ta my sunrise snaps again whilst listening to Brittens Sea Interludes and you can see where the inspiration came from.

I look forward to seeing you all down this way next year.

Wow what a fantastic weekend, well done and thanks to all concerned, definately on the must do list for next year, well worth the trip down from Yorkshire.  Thanks to John for organising such a great crew for me and to Lesley for putting up with me and keeping me from crashing into various moored boats etc.  Thanks for the tour of the boat yard too John, dangerous though looking around a boat yard with Tim Gatti
Returned home initially in convoy with Tim Gatti yesterday via the boat building college in Lowestoft (very interesting) and looked at Tim's new Starfish in Sherringham (nice rowlocks)!  I also did a slight detour after leaving Sherringham via Nottingham to reunite Christine Marshall with the purse she left at Aldeburgh, a total round trip of 680 miles, good job I could refuel with Christine's credit card!
Thanks again for a great weekends sailing and socialising we will be back next year if you will have us.  Howard C (aka Chadders)

To echo the other comments about the weekend - AB FAB!
Despite splitting a plank on Saturday (which turned Starfish into a sieve) and top batten failure ripping the 1974 Musto sails (thank you Chadders for the loan of your standby P&Bs N2266s for the Sunday) the 400 miles round trip and nearly 8 hours driving was totally worth it!
Sincere thanks to John Chalker, Anthony Gifford,Anthony's Dad (race officer) and all the crew at Aldeburgh - please can we come back next year? Px :K)

Bad luck if you stayed at home last weekend. There was racing for everyone at Aldeburgh YC in a diverse fleet spanning 70 years of development.
Congatulations to Guy Pelling, winner of the Ganymede Trophy and to Howard Chadwick, winner of the vintage section.
Thanks to all the visitors who travelled to the far east. We look forward to next years event, hopefully with even more boats on the water. The N12 fleet outnumber the combined RS400 & K6 fleets on saturday evening. If we have enough entries the Club has offered a hog roast next year.

Great weekend - thank you John for organising it and the stunning weather.  Not only did Howard win the vintage section showing what a good sailor he is - but he was also generous enough to lend his spare mainsail to Mr Turner in 'Starfish' for the racing on the Sunday after his top batten pocket disintegrated on Saturday.
