Rick / Grazz - how about announcing this resource to the dinghy sailing world through Y&Y, Dinghy sailing mag etc - there must be many people who have sailied these boats in the past and have history to add in.  Could they just email in to NTOA if they are put off doing it directly.  Another good 'excuse' to publicise 12s and maybe get a few more boats found and sailing.

I have just been having a dig around in the database and Graham has done a great job allowing the database to be listed by number or design.

This framework allows the members to create an on-line history of each boat in a collective fashion.

I encourage you all to reward Grahams efforts by making your own contribution for each boat that you have owned or sailed.

This will form a useful record for people entering the class when considering the purchase of 2nd hand boats.

Well done, a fabulous resource for the class.  To make the best of it I guess its down to us all now to populate it  .  A bit of a trip down memory lane for some of us!

OK found it - I think it needs to be on the menu as well as in the 'latest' section.

How do you add pictures?

Philip (just call me the dumb user)

To start with you need to have the picture on the internet ...

For example there is a picture of a 12 on this page ...

http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/photos/?s=64&PID=16592

Right mouse click on the picture and click properties.

In that window there will be an address ... in this case it is ...

http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/photos/national12/2007bloodymary2.jpg

Copy that and then past it in your post.

Here is the address.

http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/photos/national12/2007bloodymary2.jpg

if you then enclose this in these tages (//)

The page then shows the below

Just taking a squizz through the database with a view to putting some information up on my old boat. I think a teensy weensy bit of tweaking may be needed Grazz, as I am sure it was not Paul Trevan but Phil Morrison who designe the Whisper 4. Phil might be old but I remember chatting to him a long time ago and he seemed to be a handy guy to have behind you if you get my drift

Grazz - would it be possible to add another filed to the boat database - which Club or location is boat currently based at.  Some have put that in comments but it could help to determine where the 12s actually sail currently.

Thanks,

Kean

Kean, I thought about adding additional fields to the main list but I think it will get out of date too quickly. The main list will be kept up to date by Michael Brookman and Kevan Bloor, this ensures that the boat names at least will stay current and if any more details on old boats are uncovered then these will also get added. The Association doesn't currently formally keep any sailing club information for the members at the moment so I think if we added the field in the main list it would get out of date very quickly.

PS I'm impressed with the number of photos being added. Nice work

Graham

Grazz - whilst it maybe true that the location can easily be moved at least with an electronic record you know when it was last updated and also anyone who 'spots' a 12 could add here - you don't need to own the boat just report where its currently sailing.  Would think this would help to identify all the active boats to help organising training / Opens etc.

Hi,

I have tried to register to provide info on 2925, 3165, 3221 and 3461, but after I have registered the database does not seem to recognise my username or password... I am running out of usernames and passwords!  Any ideas?

I just use my standard name and password and have got a few comments onto the database.

David - I think if you register once and login then you don't post as a guest it makes life much simpler.  Due to spammers etc Grazz made guest posting more diificult and its much easier to login once.

Thanks Kean,

But I have used the "forgot password" got the e-mail, cut and pasted the issued password with the user name that was on the e-mail and still can't log on.

I then tried to start again, by registering a new user name, but won't let me because there is already a registered user on the same address, albiet one who can't log on!

Frustrated of Salcombe!

Glitch in boat database.  I can find my boat under 3339 - and its listed as a Crusdaer 88.  However when you do a review of the designs and list all the boats its not listed, nor under Crusader.  Is this a glitch somewhere - anyone else found a problem?

Very odd  ??)

Kean - lost in cyberspace

odd behaviour...

The pictures of gryphonm don't appear when you search for 'gryphon' in the database - but when you go to edit the entry - there they are!

Why is this? is it only my mac browser?

Phil

Kean, I think the Crusader 88s should now be listed in the design search. The problem was the apostrophe in the design name confusing the search.

Phil, the pictures currently only appear in the discussion board view. I'm working on getting them to appear in the search view
