A poll of the Northern and Scottish fleets suggests that we are going to have a strong vintage fleet at the above, and numbers are already looking v encouraging across the board. Who's coming to play? On top of the sailing there's the promise of great cakes and lots of real ale . . . .

Without wishing to ask your age... I would check the directions before you set off. I think that the club has changed by a distance of several miles, it is now in a village called Farnham that is North East of Harrogate and nowhere near Ripon.

My first prize there was crewing for a Mr Roger Tushingham (of windsurfing sail fame) back in 1975 - I know I don't look that old ;D :o

Looking really good - already 20+ entries!
Don't let tales of sunken dredgers put you off - it's still there, but much lower in the water (you can sail over it most of the time) and well marked by buoys! Kean - the main change you will notice is the trees, which have softened the landscape somewhat (oh for some good coppicing!!).
The real ale was sampled at the Club 50th anniversay bash this weekend and pronounced to be excellent, so that should keep people happy!

Unfortunately the N12 event of the year clashes with a rather larger event in London involving skinny men on two wheels. On the assumption that there will always be another N12 event but there's only one Tour de France in London, I've opted for the latter. Will be making the trip up north to WRSC though.

]Vintage fleet now fast approaching 10 boats! Should be a fantastic weekend, invitations to the evening event being extended to our list of past N12ers as we speak - last October we managed over 100 for supper and we definitely look set to exceeed this in July.
Angus - taking a chainsaw to your boat is just taking things too far. OK, it might make the gunwhales more streamlined but the results of working on them with a plane might be a little kinder on the eye! Moles don't get scared (much).

The list of likely entries is now approaching 30, with Vintage still looking like the biggest fleet. Having just spent the weekend sailing Xanthus there with Ellie I am itching to get afloat on the 7th July and really looking forward to a great weekend. I'm delighted to report that both Witch and Witchcraft will be afloat again, thanks to Howard Steavenson's generosity and the helmsmanship of a brace of Miatts.
If you are intending to come along and need a crew we need to know now so that we can find someone suitable - we have a thriving junior section and there are a number of young sailors who would like to get involved.

Planning to be there to boost the Vintage fleet with N341 following its brief appearance at Yeadon last October.
Possess some dacron sails now (thanks to Howard C) so don't have to worry about getting the original cotton ones wet!

Finally booked accomodation, now really looking forward to it!! I can recommend the Knaresborough Tourist Information on 0845 389 0177 who sorted us out with somewhere family friendly.
Anybody still undecided about coming to this one I can assure that Team Roly Mo have ensured that you will not have a spare minute of your time there to wonder if it is enjoyable, between the sailing, the social and the potential to watch others make fools of themselves it will be non stop fun.
On a more serious note, I am concious that it is hard to promote this event to non-members. If any of you have other 12s at your home club and they are not members then please tell them that this is an event that they would be very welcome at, and one that will have a large number of 12s of all ages and abilities (I am talking about the helms, crews, and boats!).

Looking to make the trip up in my Crusader. (well my car with Crusader in tow actually)
Looking at accomodation, my (non sailing) wife wants to use the time for a spot of shopping in Leeds/York on Saturday, so we are looking to base ourselves there, hopefully Friday night as well as Saturday.
Would prefer to leave the boat at the sailing club Friday evening, will it be open? if not,no worries we will make the trip up Saturday morning. Be good to know so we can book the accomodation this week.

Glad to hear you are coming to join the fun! Yes, you can bring your boat to the club on Friday night - we will be there from about 6pm onwards I guess. Will email you separately with contact details as it is likely the gate will be locked and we will need to let you in.
If you base yourselves in Harrogate your wife could 'let the train take the strain' - Harrogate has good rail links to both York and Leeds. Knaresborough has a station too, with direct links to York and Harrogate and from Harrogate links to Leeds (if memory serves me correctly some trains run from York through to Harrogate and then on to Leeds).

Would like to attend, however meeting the prototype of my car at Glamis Castle is taking precidence this year. The boat is 15 years newer than the tow car ! Both working well & very environmentally friendly. Hope to be next year.

Had a fantastic day's sailing today, racing Xanthus against Roly Mo. No not a feat of imagination, Roly was being 'practised' on by Phil Benn for next weekend, and I was really glad to have someone to race against in Xanthus. Interestingly we were 10 seconds different in the first race (he won) and in slightly lighter conditions we got home about 3 minutes ahead of him. It's going to be fantastic racing next weekend if we get the same sort of wind conditions. Bring it on (without the rain please)!
Now going to fit longer toe straps for the crew . . .

Twin Camms 1st no doubt - Meds was given 2nd as I recall but there may be a stewards enquiry in the results as the last race was not recorded correctly (and maybe the 3rd).
The pursuit was dominated by the vintages.
Loads of old vintage clinkers (lots of shiny wood), quite a few ACs and the newer DBs. Not sure of the final numbers but a great turn out!!
Saturday was VERY VERY gusty - I think max gust was around 40 knots and the results will show lots of DNF and DNCs. Big respect to any 12 crews - I went in front end of a Foolish and swam more times than I care to recall - but we did finish (after some of the vintages :B ) but it was good fun :D
Sunday was a big change - went too light a few times but overall a much better day (depending on your point of view). The racing was generally much closer (although G&Z still way ahead).
I'm sure full results will be up soon - there were some awesome pics too - ever seen a 12 do a front nose dive VERTICAL and have back end up in the air??

I had a windy Saturday on the Ammersee - Force 4 gusting 6(!) I managed to keep the boat upright although I was solo sailing - some fluke eh? Planing upwind is really freaky too.... :o It's at times like this when I'm greatful for my 90Kg weight!

The report, and some pics, should be on the site soon. In the meantime we can confirm that there was a Stewards Inquiry and that the full results which will be posted do show some differences from those announced yesterday. We apologise for any confusion caused. Let's just say that sail result software isn't used to coping with the pecularities of N12's!
The Twin Camm engine did indeed win, convincingly, with 4 1sts. Meds and Katy were second, with Sam and Fiona Mettam 3rd. Gavin and Sabrina Willis took 4th (with their boat definitely being the talking point of the non N12 sailors on the bank), Stevie and Joanne Sallis 5th, and Philip and Helen David 6th. Kevin and Lesley were 7th, with Roly Mo (under the very capable junior hands of Phil Benn and David Moore) 8th.
We had a magnificent 37 entries and all enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Angus gave us a fab demonstration of Scottish Country dancing, Stevie showed how to pitch pole and Ian P showed how to submarine. Lots of people gave demonstrations of bucket management skills, with ICM's crew probably deserving the award for her bailing skills.
All in all a fantastic weekend - thanks to everyone who came along and supported it.

I don't know about Jennie being so profuse with her thanks to us for attending, I think all those of us who went to Ripon SC this weekend owe her a HUGE vote of thanks. Jennie has been really active for months in pulling this together, not only in respect of ensuring everything was organised for us sailors but also in cajoling people to lend boats, finding crews, baby sitters, and I suspect loads of other things as well. For somone who doesn't actually compete themselves, this is a really selfless attitude, which is very unusual and welcomed (at least by me). Well worth the 500 mile round trip.
Hope to have the overall results for the Gill series done tomorrow. Subsidiaries may take a little longer as I only have a short lunch break!
