Title: Scottish Championships, Annandale SC
Post by: Roly Mo on 11 Apr 2008, 07:40
Just a quick reminder that the Scottish Championships will be held at Annandale SC this year, and will take place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May 2008.

For those who havn't been before, Annandale SC is situated in the small town of Lochmaben, which is about 10 miles west of Lockerbie.  This is the first time we've held the championships on Inland Water for some time and those of us who have been before know that Annandale SC will host a fantastic weekend for us.  There's plenty of accommodation in the area and we may be treated to the sight of Angus doing some Scottish Country Dancing (with Rohan no doubt looking on despairingly!).

The club are keen to get some idea of attendees so either post here or email us to let us know if you are going to be there.  If you want any more information either contact us or John Hugo.  Hope that we get a good turn out and that lots of you turn up - someone has to try and wrestle that trophy off Homer and Marge!

Happy Sailing
RM and Co

I'm sorry Rohan has only agreed to cew for me if I chain my legs together:'( and any way I havn't yet negotiated two consecutive weekends away (coaching ripon).
I am working on the principle that we need to put our new found skills into practice or it would not be worth going if we didn't have some new found skills.;D
By the way mr camm if we don't come away with any silver wear or is that where? we will be demanding a full refund>:(
Now back to the dance practise first some oil......::)

Why don't you treat 'she who does not get her feet wet' to a weekend away?  If she won't come south send her North - have heard Shetland is quite good at this time of the year.  I am having a weekend away on my own - girls busy doing sailing things at home that weekend.  Jennie is relying on Marge making sure I don't get into trouble.
Teaching Mirror sailing tips tomorrow - Ellie is going to assist me . . . . I feel I will be needing significant quantities of wine tomorrow night!

PS Better brush up on some songs Marty!

It's a lot closer than 10 miles from Lockerbie. Aboot 4 miles as the cyclist struggles.
If I remember correctly I'm on rescue duty, so no falling of in please.
As ever, looking forward to seeing shiny things....;D

Jennie will be pleased to hear that Marge will be there keeping a close eye on Mr Roly Mo.  Although if Angus decides to grace the floor we might have a rethink!

Annandale SC is looking forward to hosting the N12 Scottish Championships on the Castle Loch at Lochmaben.
Briefing will be between 11.30 and 11.45 on Saturday, with the first warning signals at 12.30 on Saturday and 10.30 on Sunday.   There will be three races scheduled for each day.    Food will be available before the first race on Saturday.  On Saturday there will be an "Italian Evening" with mainly pasta menu.  (Including a vegetarian option Angus, but no room for eightsome reels I'm afraid.) This and the Sunday lunch are included in the entry fee.
For accomodation phone 0845 22 55 121 or try visitdumfriesandgalloway.co.uk

Will see you all, though I will be at the front of a GP14 :o  - thats what you get when you say you can multitask !!   Won't the reels be in the dingy park with the boats as to add to the "interest"  ?  Duncan

My thanks go to John Hugo and all the team at Annandale for running an absolutely wonderful weekend for us.  The management of the racing was first class, the club kept us fed and watered throughout the day and the Saturday evening 'Italian Night' was absolutely incredible.  Food and as much wine and beer as you could drink all included in the entry fee, along with Saturday afternoon tea and Sunday lunch.  Great racing and socialising hosted by a super club - this is what sailing is all about.

I heard all about it from 3 different people and its only Tuesday!  Everyone managed to make me feel even sadder to have missed it so thanks chaps I will try harder to make it next year honest.
The thing that modest Bern forgot to say was that he won!!  Gongratulations on retaining your title of Scottish Champion Bernard, I look forward to reading the full report on the event in due course.

Well done Bernard, you were going very well all weekend and thoroughly deserved to take the pot home. Sorry we weren't there to see it presented.

Indeed, it was an event of much derring do (General recall for the GPs + smallish venue = ulp!)
A nice variety of boats, one with flames on, which is always a good thing... 8)

Thanks for mentioning my name, Bernard, but mine was a very small contribution to the success of the Scottish Championships.   Team Roly Mo played a major part in setting up and publicising the event. I must also pay tribute to the Annandale S.C. members who always give an enthusiastic welcome to the N12s, and in particular to Sailing Secretary, Andrew Greenhalgh who did an amazing amount of work in the organisation, (including the catering), and in acting as an excellent PRO for the event.  Well sailed Roly Mo.

Chadders,
Your language suggests you were there (or somewhere similar)  I quote "gongratulations" or did Bernard also win a medal?

Just wondered how many boats were onthe water (in total approx) as I was hoping to suggest this as a venue for the CVRDA at some point and wondered how it would suit.

Great write-up on a great event now posted I see.
Although Seb and I could only make it up in time for the Saturday night Italian meal and the Sunday sailing, it nevertheless was worth making the effort to travel up from Shipley, for a really well hosted and organised event with pleanty of water and wind - despite the lull after lunch on Sunday.  Or perhaps that was planned too, to help our lunch go down!? Thank you Annadale and hope to see you again next year.
A very big thanks too to Howard Chadwick for the loan of a Proctor C mast and to Brian Herring who sold me some bargain sails, so I could get the boat back on the water after 30 years.  No plans to do up any more boats this year so watch out for Purely Platonic at future events (and N341 when I've sorted the minor rot in her keel - oh dear)
Just a minor correction to the write-up - Seb and I were actually sailing a newly restored Mark 12, N2255, 'Purely Platonic', which I finished putting back together at 3pm on Sat, and not Gnasher (N3109) which I restored last year but sold in March.  Sorry if you find it difficult to keep up with all my 'new' old boats!
