Title: Tim Tomlinson
Post by: Tom Stewart on 31 May 2013, 08:57
Sad news. Tim Tomlinson died yesterday. Tim sailed built and measured Twelves for longer than I can remember. Tim was class chairman in 1965, he aso built numerous boats in the 70's and a carbon fibre double floored design 8 this century.
Tim measured most of the P&B produced Foolishes and DCBs and I enjoyed his company on all these occasions and always came away a little wiser. I will always remember buouyancy testing the first double floored Foolish with Tim and Patrick Elcombe, we loaded the boat with weights and then tried to fill the boat with water, on the grounds that the water wouldn't stay in the boat it was decided that the boat passed but we had better review the rules on buoyancy testing!
Tim was a leading member of Middle Nene Sailing Club, where having retired from Twelve sailing he took up sailing a Flying Fifteen. I think Tim enjoyed boat maintenance as much as the sailing as anyone who knew him will testify, I doubt any other classic fifteen has as much carbon built in.
Tim leaves behind a loving family and many devoted friends.
