Title: Old Sail needed
Post by: paul on 10 Mar 2007, 09:09
Hi I am looking for an old mainsail that I can put reefing points into to allow my son to sail solo occasionally, does anyone have one that maybe is past it's prime that they would be willing to let go cheap. Cheers Paul.

Alternatively why not try a Mirror mainsail as being much more readily available.

Hi Paul,
There is an old National 12 mainsail for sale on ebay at the moment. Looks in good nick, better infact than the old mylar one which went with N2743.

The main on ebay is a Ratsey & Lapthorne; I have 2 R&L's which are made from very thin terylene, and I don't think they would hold reef points. I took the bottom panel off the most stretched one and re-sewed the bolt rope (they do need a boom with a slot), which reduces the area and lifts the end of the boom, so more headroom and much less likely to dig in when gybing.
