Title: transporting sails
Post by: philipcosson on 08 Jun 2008, 10:57
Does anybody have any experience with different carriers for transporting sails? I'm looking to post some to the south coast this week

Hi Philip. FedEx UK maybe worth a go, as of the size it will be done by hand at the sorting office and not via the machine so should get there in one piece.. Stu.

Sailmakers seem to use a stout triangular cardboard container (like a giant Toblerone!) that is the length of the sail foot so that the rolled up sail fits neatly.

Cardboard tubes that carpets are wrapped around are very study and probably not cost you anything.
Someone once sent me a sail I think via Staples who used Christian Salvensen at the time. It was a very reasoable cost given it was a long tube.

I have found a courier who will hand deliver - no packaging required! If anyone wants something delivered, he is always going up and down the country so he might be a good bet.
Hi name is Mel - i will give his phone out on request

He will also tow
