Title: BURTON WEEK ENTRIES
Post by: BURTON WEEK 2010 on 05 Mar 2010, 11:21
Entries for Burton Week will appear on this thread as they are received. Early entry would be appreciated as it will enable the committee to organise the event more effectively, and ensure that it is the event not to be missed.

Remember, if you enter before the end of February you will be entered into the draw for a new Jib at the Dinghy Show, by kind generousity of Pinnell and Bax.

This list is only a record of those who have registered fully for the event, so please do not put your intention to come to the event on this string and expect this to qualify as your entry. Use the link below to download the entry form and send it to Janet Bloor, the Class secretary.

Can someone advise exactly where the 12's will be based? I see on the entry form the WPNSA is indicated but I have heard the 12's will be at Castle Cove SC, this is important as my kids will be doing a Cadet event the same week-end at Portland so my ability to sail my old 12 will depend on where it is.
By the way if anyone needs crews fo the Monday (Burton) there will be a number of very experienced Cadet sailors about as their event ends on the Sunday.
Regards, Dave

Dave - see the link to the Burton Week website on the N12 homepage for full details- the whole event is based at the WPNSA - where the Cadet event is also taking place.
Originally Castle Cove had been earmarked as the venue but when we met them in October there were a number of constraints - particularly around numbers and parking, that made a move over the water to the Sailing Academy a more feasible option.
We are hoping to get as many Cadets out in 12's as we can during the course of the event, so your offer of crews for the Burton sounds a good one.
Look forward to seeing you there. Tim

If anybody is crewless i may be available for the event depending on AS Level exams and when they start/finish. I'm from OMSC and have had a fair bit of experience in the front of a 12.

Any replies would be appreciated :)

Last year I was part of the Burton Week organising comm for the TB Burton. The swift response and the numbers of entries was amasing, but the early response greatly helped us put on a great event. If you are planning to come to Weymouth and have the entry form at the ready I am sure Tim and his comm. would greatly appreciate to know nubers asap. Also Weymouth is a great place to sail so you dont want to miss out.

ps that was hard work as arm is in a sling following a bit of shoulder blade being removed yesterday, caused by sailing abuse over many years!!!!!!

May 2009: Tuesday at Thorpe Bay - Flipside upside down, mast in three pieces, Anne & I wet, cold, tired, fed up.  In spite of great success of weekend, am reminded once again why I dislike sea sailing so much and that I'm far too old for this kind of caper.  Resolve to stick to rivers from now on - this is definitely the last Burton I'll ever do.
Feb 2010: New boat nearing completion, Portland accommodation booked, entry + cheque put in post today.

Glad that you are coming Mike and Anne (and Howard!) - feel almost the opposite though.   Really look forward to Burton because it is almost the only sea event in the calendar - I yearn for the early 90s when we were sailing at Pevensey, Thorpe Bay, Exmouth etc  MORE SEA SAILING PLEASE

Jane - I can recommend Swanage Regatta. 12s hold a superb old trophy (with its own wooden storage box) from last year and would be great for 12s to retain it this year which would mean a degree of planning and commitment to make sure we were the biggest handicap class. Normally its the first weekend in August.

Thanks Mike - will put it in the diary for 2011.  In 2010 I will be in Looe competing (gulp!) at the Scorpion Nationals with my husband.  Nowhere near as comfortable as the 12!

I've sent off my entry form and I'm looking forward to the champs already! I will be sailing my dad's boat, and I was wondering if I had to be a member of the class association to take part??
Thanks, Arthur

Entry Form posted today. Not sure what boat at this stage, it will either be a feeling foolish or the restored starfish.. It will depend on how long it takes it get the starfish on the water.

54 early entries for the P&B Free Jib Draw is absolutely brilliant and beats last year's early doors entry.  Could this mean we are on track to exceed the Thorpe Bay total of 80 boats?  Let's see if we can do it and make Weymouth a National Championships to remember.

If you are thinking of entering - why wait? And if you have already entered why not see if you can encourage others to register for the event as well.  If you able to provide a 12 for others to sail or if you are short of a crew - post the details on the forum and we'll get something sorted for you.
See the countdown on Jeremy's great Burton Week website for the number of days left before it all gets underway!

I look forward to seeing you all there

Tim

Hi all
As some one new to the class all your history is new to me...
So i was looking at the entry form for Burton week and wondered... if we get a boat in time and decide to come down what boxes would i tick in the section regarding "subsidiary trophies"?
Cheers
Ian

Ian.
It is all down to age, sex, boat type, weight. If you go onto the Burton web page and look at 'Notice of Race' it explains what cat. each trophy is raced for. Burton week is a great event so come and enjoy yourself.

It's good to see that we are now up to 56 entries with a few more about to go in the post I hear with five weeks still to go.
I'm really hoping we can make it to 65+ boats by 29th May
So - if you are still thinking of entering please get your forms in soon - not only to ensure you get your seats secured for the Burton Dinner but also to help those organising the event.
The budget is quite tight this year so it is really helpful for the Burton Committee to know how many entry fees to expect and how many Safety Boats and crews need to be provided and paid for (1 per 15 boats on the water).
Looking forward to another great Burton event!
Tim

Hi im Sam Barker (15, 5"10, 65kg) and i am interested to sail at Burton Week Weymouth.
I am a weymouth sailior and i can either helm or crew. If you are by any chance short of your crew or helm i am more that happy to fill in that big gap in the boat!

Hi All
I am posting in reference to my brother. He is interested in sailing at Burton Week, arrangements were made for him to sail with another sailor but unfortunately they fell through. He's a competent sailor in the front of a 12, sailed some events over the past 12 months. At the moment he stands at 5ft 6in and weighs in at about 9 Stone.
Any response would be greatly appreciated.

The Cadets are holding a major regatta at the same time as Burton Week. There may be crews or helms available as some of the children have older siblings. If there is interest I can get an e-mail sent round the Cades to ask - let me know via this discussion board.
Regards, Dave

David - thanks for your kind offer
We are up to 69 entries now, despite some last minute cancellations due to miscellaneous unfortunate injuries and unforseen circumstances.  I am hopeful that numbers will be approaching the mid-70's by the end of the month.
If anyone is still in need of a crew I would suggest that they respond to your posting direct.
Looking forward to seeing you at the WPNSA
Best wishes
Tim
