Would be useful if all those who have looked at this string would leave a few adjectives to work with!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not sure we have ever beaten 'sorted for ease and whizz' as a slogan, but i do not fancy being involved in re-use of that one.  I am struggling to come up with anything better, although we have a lot of different aspects of the boats and class that we can play on.
'it is not the speed that matters, but the sensation of speed' is something i always try to expalin to people that say that the boats look a bit slow and boring.  This is the go-kart vs Ferrari thesis.
I agree with Mike that clothes for children will prove popular, even children that are too small to really appreciate a 12.

Young man, I need a good crew?
I said, young man, this is a Big Issue 2.
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a Design 8
There's no need to be unhappy.

Young man, don’t be Foolish you know.
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough.
You can sail there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to sail with the N T O A.
It's fun to sail with the N T O A.

They have every 12, for you to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the carbon toys ... <br style="mso-special-character: line-break;" /><br style="mso-special-character: line-break;" />
It's fun to sail with the N T O A.
It's fun to sail with the N T O A.

You can get your hull cleaned, you can have a good meal,
You can do whatever you feel ...

Young man, are you listening to me?
I said, young man, what do you want to be?
I said, young man, you can make real your dreams.
But you got to know this one thing!

No man does it all by himself.
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf,
And just go there, to the N T O A.
I'm sure they can help you today.

It's fun to sail with the N T O A.
It's fun to sail with the N T O A.

They have every 12, for you to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the carbon toys ...

It's fun to sail with the N T O A.
It's fun to sail with the N T O A.

You can get yourself cleaned, you can have a good meal,
You can do whatever you feel ...

Young man, I was once in your shoes.
I said, I was down and out with the RS blues.
I felt no man cared if I were alive.
I felt the whole world was so tight ...

That's when someone came up to me,
And said, young man, take a walk up the street.
There's a place there called the N T O A
They can start you back on your way.

It's fun to sail with the N T O A.
It's fun to sail with the N T O A.

They have everything for you men to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the boys ...

N T O A ... you'll find it at the NTOA.

Young man, young man, there's no need to feel down.
Young man, young man, get yourself off the ground.

N T O A ... you'll find it at the NTOA.

Young man, young man, there's no need to feel down.
Young man, young man, get yourself off the ground.

.N T O A ... you'll find it at the NTOA.

Young man, young man, are you sailing with me?
Young man, young man, what do you wanna be?

Shes a perfect 10, but she Sails a 12
Baby keep a little crew for me
She could be sweet 16, bustin out at the seams
Its still love in the first degree

When hes at my gate, with a Design 8
You wanna see the smile on my face
And even at my door, with a poor Mark 4
There aint no man can replace

cause we love our 12,
In different sizes
we love this boat, especially the lines
Time takes its toll, but not on the eyes
Promise me this, sail em tonight

If hes extra large well Im in charge
I can work this thing on top
If hes xxl well what the hell
Every penny dont fit the slot

The anorexic chicks, the model 6
They dont hold no weight with me
Well 8 or 9, well thats just fine
But I like to sail with something I can see

cause we love our 12,
In different sizes
we love this boat, especially the lines
Time takes its toll, but not on the eyes
Promise me this, sail em tonight

Ive bought a watch, to time your beauty
But Ive had to fit a second hand
Ive bought a calendar, and every month
Is taken up by lover man

cause we love our 12,
In different sizes
we love this boat, especially the lines
Time takes its toll, but not on the eyes
Promise me this, sail em tonight

cause we love our 12,
In different sizes
we love this boat, especially the lines
Time takes its toll, but not on the eyes
Promise me this, sail em tonight

Quick-tackin', close-racin', ace-sailin', motivatin', good-buzzin', cool-talkin', high-flyin', fast-reachn', ever-givin', cool-lookin'... 12!

here's some ideas Jeremy:

wet, wobbly & wild

go designer - feel the difference

have you forgotten how good they race?

12 feet (12 footprints on a t-shirt)

Think    different - think 12

12 - the original and the best

Nippy
Awe-inspiring
Tactical
Invigorating
Original
Nimble (Nosedive?)
Arty
Legendary

12

The reason that I have been asking for adjectives is that I was thinking of doing a t-shirt based on an extract from a dictionary adapted to suit a twelve. this would then be combined with the N12 logo either wrapped or beneath the text.
Was thinking of words such as exhilarating..

Below is the text from a t-shirt I did back when I had a 29er and wanted to do something for my trapezing crew. Was thinking of this sort of thing, though much shorter and related to the adjectives in conjunction with sailing a 12.

Teabag ~noun & verb (~ed; ~ing; to~; ~er)
Definition ~ perforated bag containing detritus which when dunked into cold fresh or salty water will enable the helm to laugh and get his own back
Often performed by inexperienced crew who believe that they have the upper hand in a water fight whilst hanging on the wire. Unaccountably it is common for the said crew to be unable to learn from the experience and hence find themselves swimming with the fishes more than strictly necessary. Additional reasons for being ~ed include wearing pink whilst on board, decorating said vessel with flower motifs and falling asleep on the wire whilst racing is underway.
~ed â€" past tense; refers to crew lying idly in water having found themselves unable to remain (unaccountably) securely attached to the said vessel
~ing â€" action of helm purposefully releasing mainsheet in order to teach crew a lesson. To ~ Verb planning of above scenario~ not often used beyond the second person but occasionally can be used in the plural when it all gets a bit too much. ~er â€" person or persons responsible for the unfortunate position that crews might find themselves in. Little or no remorse is ever observed on the ~ers face indicating a dire warning to the crew for the future

Post by: THG on 13 Feb 2008, 11:19
Grazz should really get most of the credit for YMCA / NTOA.
The 2nd one is from Beautiful South, "Perfect 10" was the orginal title.  NO I can't sing it in tune!! ;D
Could modify the chorus a bit more to fit;

cause we love our 12,
In different guises
we love this boat, especially the lines
Time takes its toll, but not on the eyes
Promise me this, sail em all right

Back on thread more - one issue we have now is the mad 12' skiff guys call themselves 12s too.  Those 12s are even more niche and totally mad with all that rag and rigs.  So just having the 12 feet (foots?) is a 8) idea but could get misconstrued.

Tremendous
Welcoming
Evolutionary
Loveable
Vaavavoom!
Elegant

Play about with some sort of tag lines;
SMOD - SaMe Old Difference
N12 - Diversity Originality Multifacted Surprising
Choose to be different - Choose a 12

Don't snort at a twelve - it's better than coke - and that ain't no joke! (Sorry THG) :D
The National 12 - Peps at Sea (Another one!)
Sailing a Twelve - The unbearable lightness of being
Goes faster - even without the stickers
National 12 - an RS 200 without her running nickers!  :o(the asymmetric at the front end if you hadn't already guessed)
Have a Twelve and a smile ;)
If you're bored on your board have a delve on a Twelve ;)
Up yours, RS whatever - National 12's Rool! :P:K)
Get Nationalised - Get a Twelve!
Get a Twelve - put the rational back in National! ;)
Bring back National12 service!
National 12 - the boat you can sail between regattas without ruining your appetite ;D - in other words the Milky Wave! :B
Surf's Up - time for a Twelve.
National 12 - Wave Function (my daughter's idea - it's the name of her Optimist!)
On the crest of the wave - National 12. (Wasn't there a 12 called "Wavecrest"?)
National 12 - "Vive la Difference!"
Oops - Burst my brain! :o
Cheers!
Jim.

Of course the old schoolers will point out they were oft known as Nationals, to avoid confusion with the 12 metres, rather than Twelves.
I'll get my coat...

back, back , back is an old favourite.
sorted for ease and whizz was good, but it is sadly no longer 1997.  for those who were not there, we went ot the dinghy show with these stickers whilst pulp had the song of this name out.  We stickered the show!  We also invented the dinghy show balloon - they are now 2 a penny - probably four or five years ago.
following the dictionary definition idea, how about the 12 logo on front and then on the back the word Class and then a suitably arrogant and aspirational definition
keep the ideas coming
John

I have been thinking hard over the past two days and havn't comeup with much but just to show I tried ( Everybody to the limit).
N12   The power of perfection.
N12 the closest I'll get to heaven
N12 if I had known heaven was this good i would have died years ago.
The perfect 12 Plenty of body and abit of a handful
Nothing of Johns class (I rather lked that one) but it might stir people into action.
You can reach for it, You can run for it, But you cann't beat them..... N12
By the way on the t shirt front I'm not so keen on them after starting to collect them from every hill race I ran in I've got enough to last me a life time. Somthing with a bit morre class please

Brilliant work Jeremy - The Power of Perfection appeals to me (perhaps I have a slightly biased view on this?). I particularly like the idea of involving the "N" in the design  as that  is what is recognised  by  many more sailors  that our 12 on  a wave logo  (much as I like that too). It would be great to bring both together on the shirt.

Cheers
Title: Re: N12 Merchantdising
Post by: tedcordall on 16 Feb 2008, 02:36
Agree about the 'N'. I'm a recent 12 convert, but a couple of years ago the wave logo would have just passed me by.
How about a subtle (inch sq) wave logo on the left chest and the main text on the back. When the wearer has humps it makes reading it without getting your face slapped so much easier! (I was just reading your chest...honest!).
I like

Darwin was right...
        N12

In a way the evolution tag is redundant, as its the only thing that Darwin is famous for. Nice colour shirt but polo??

They are brilliant - our favourites are the 12 feet and 'develop' but we havn't consulted Miss Clark (who could be said to be the only style conscious member of the team) as she is in bed, sleeping the sleep of the just and preparing herself for a full on day at Ryton tomorrow. :)

After a weekend of consultantion and consideration the following T-shirt is going to print. It has gone to one colour to keep the price of the final t-shirt down so if you are happening to be at the dinghy show they should be available.

I have ordered various colours and sizes in women's men's and childrens',but if more are found to be needed then orders wil be accepted at the show .

I have added N12 to the top in preference to the twelve logo so that it is instantly recognisable. Hope this suits everyone!

If the T shirt sells well, i think a  "Baseball cap" with the N12 logo on would be good , i am sure these will sell well,  or some sort of cap for sailing ...
