The Burton Cup Dinner.
This was held on the evening of the Burton Cup race and was filled to absolute capacity with 130 people seated. Unfortunately some had to be turned away as there was no way anymore could be accommodated. It is thanks to the catering team of TBYC and the planning Kevin and Lindsey Iles that enabled the evening to pass so faultlessly. The serving of food was slick and efficient and considering the lack of space this was quite an achievement!
After the meal the prize giving was given for the Burton Cup and this was followed by a fantastic presentation of this year’s Burton Brick Award given by Gavin Willis. After many a story of woe, and some very tight competition the Brick was awarded to Christopher Troth of OMSC for his brave recovery of his 12 from 3/4 of a mile down the beach where he had retired to after the Force 7 winds at the start of the days racing.
He gained the honour of the brick for firstly removing his crew from the centreboard after a capsize and secondly for trailing it 3/4 of a mile along the promenade by car, mast up, weaving in and out of the road to avoid the overhead street lights.
His Bright pink 12 named- ‘More a tart than a pudding’ was considered to be fantastic advertising for the class as it went down the road!
We hope he enjoys his year with the Brick and look forward to next years entries for this prestigious trophy!
Congratulations Chris!
