Witchcraft Bailer Trophy Series – Final Result

The final weekend of the six-meeting Series, involving consecutive meetings at Ripon S.C. and Yeadon S.C., produced an unexpected result and a welcome new winner. Before this weekend there were three qualifiers, of whom Brian Herring and Ken Goddard were first and second repectively. At Ripon and Yeadon the third qualifier, Ian Purkis of Yorkshire Ouse S.C. was the only entrant to sail a Vintage Twelve. (Brian elected to sail his Design 8 and Ken was unable to attend; no other local clinker boat took part). So Ian, crewed by Margaret Overend, sailing a Proctor Mk.6 design, "Mock Turtle", N.1620, picked up the Vintage Prize at both events and on aggregate, the Series prize as well. Congratulations! Ian illustrated the benefit of persevering and sailed in 5 meetings in the Series. Ken sailed four and Brian three. Seventeen helms sailed in the series. It is being considered that, in conjunction with a possible change of one of the venues, the method of qualifying next year may be adjusted to attract more qualifiers.
