Trent Valley SC 9th May 1999

This years meeting attracted 20 Twelves to the River Trent, partly due to the excellent weather but mainly due to the new combined weekend with Nottingham SC.

An unusual wind direction and particularly strong current provided an unusual course and made place changes difficult and a good start vital. The excellent turn out meant the fleet was split into 4 flights.

In race 1, Michael Cooke lead the first flight in his Baggy until gear failure force an early lunch, leaving Terry (his Dad) to take the lead followed by Tony Edwards and Peter Cook. Ian Gore lead the second flight off the start line with Tim Gray and Graham Camm battling it out for 2nd place, Gray made the most of a gust in the "doldrums" to sail into 2nd place.

The wind dropped and veered a little for the second race. A packed start line resulted in a 6 boat tacking battle close to the bank to avoid the strong current. John Sears and Terry Cooke emerge at the front of the fleet with Peter Cook in close pursuit. Sears clinched the race from Cooke on the final lap. The second flight was lead by Ian Gore closely followed by Tony Edwards and Tim Gray.

The wind backed significantly for the final race, so a reeching starting had to be used. Tim Gray lead off the start line but Ian Gore in his new Carbon Feeling Foolish zoomed passed in the first gust and went on to take the bullet, leaving Gray to second and Peter Cook to third. In the second flight John Sears made the most of an inside position out of the current to clinch first place, closely followed by Tony Edwards and Graham Camm.
