National 12s at DERWENT RESERVOIR S.C.

Set in an attractive North Pennine valley the reservoir is 3.5 miles long and provides 1000 acres of water devoted solely to sailing. There is ample space for major events to be staged on courses seperate from club sailing. Five slipways give easy access to the water from the 400 space dinghy park. The purpose-built clubhouse provides changing rooms, showers, galley, bar and large club room. Sailing is available on Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesday and Friday afternoons. On-site camping and caravanning is usually available for events.

Derwent Week, starting on the late May Bank holiday weekend, has a full racing programme of 7 series for the eleven club classes and a handicap fleet. There is also a full social programme for the week and camping and caravan visitors are welcomed.

National Twelves. There are usually about 6 Twelves in the dinghy park. The fleet is probably the most active of the minority fleets at the Club. An Open Meeting is usually held in May each year and a Vintage Twelve Open Meeting in the early Autumn.

Location D.R.S.C. is on the County Durham Northumberland border, just off the A68, and about half an hour from Newcastle upon Tyne. For non-sailors the Club is an excellent spot for walking or biking. Within easy reach there is a wide range of attractions such as Hadrian's Wall, Beamish Open Air Museum, Durham Cathedral and Metro Centre.
