Moby Quick is a Design 8 National 12, designed by Phil Morrison and built by Ovington Boats in 1993.

I purchased the boat in 2014 and sailed it for a few years before I decided to start refurbishing elements of the boat.

Unfortunately, I just don’t have time to complete the project and am looking to find someone with the time to bring this once loved boat back to full glory.

The boat is complete, with mast, boom, 1 suite of sails, rudder, dangly pole etc, but is currently in bits as I’ve been trying to re-gelcoat the deck, which is mostly done, it just needs flat-sanding and polishing. Then the boat can go back together and be sailed, probably the work of a weekend for someone with the time and enthusiasm. The boat comes on a Trident webbing support trolley but there is no road trailer, so you will need to bring one to collect, alternatively I might be able to help with delivery at a cost.

The boat has all the trick controls you might expect from a National 12. Fully adjustable uppers, lowers, rig tension and mast ram as well as the usual controls, most of which can be adjusted from the helm position.

The boat had lots of new string a few years ago, most of which hasn’t seen much use. All the blocks and controls are in working order with plenty of Harken bits amongst it.

The boat will need a new top cover as the old one disintegrated.

The sails are quite old but usable. A Mylar Main and a Dacron Jib. I’ll also mention that the mast, although straight has a slight crinkle, which it had when I bought it and it’s never caused an issue.


I'm very open to offers on this boat as I need it gone, but I'm also aware that there is quite a bit of value in the hardware, so don't want to give it away.

I also don't want to scrap it for parts as a bit of effort will have this boat back sailing again where it belongs.
