Hi all,

The crew has finally decided it's too cold so the boat is now tucked up in the garage.  It's going to be the inside of the boat done first and it's in need  of a bit of a tidy up.

Where the varnish has run into the corners at joints it's starting to lift a little.  When it gets to this stage is the only way to get it looking good to strip it all off first? any handy hints would be appreciated.

Jon,

Might be a good thing to strip it all out and start again. It's never a good thing to layer new varnish onto old, since where the joins (old to new) are there'll never be a perfectly "water repellent" seal. I'm going to have to do this next year to my Tigress, before I coat her insides with epoxy and then reapply the varnish. She's starting to show typical signs of ageing due to her round bilge and stress lines are all the more obvious. A long job, but well worth it. Shame I can' t do it out of season, but the temperature drops far too low here in Winter.

Cheers and good luck with the varnish.
