Hi Mark,
Is your mast carbon or metal?

I can explain what I do in my Feeling Foolish or Dead Cat Bounce, but it took me a while to "get it to feel right" in the breeze.

Rescued from just outside Bath in January 2023, with the intention of stripping the parts and fittings from the boat, however the hull's condition was much better than advertised, so now looking for a new home! Currently at RHYC in Suffolk but hoping to pass on to new ownership soon.

Hi Dave

Have used P&B for foolish & DCB covers in recent years, hard to beat I think.

Please find attached list of entries so far.

If you think you've entered but do not appear on the list, please get in touch!

Alternatively, if you're planning on attending but have not yet entered - please do so, to assist with the Class' planning of Burton Week 2022!

Hi David,

A great account of your first few sails in your National 12, an excellent read!

A few pointers:

Would try cleaning the mast track and spraying some mclube or similar first. Masts are expensive - but can be purchased from Super Spars or Selden.

I find kicker tension is vital off-wind, letting it off is an accelerator until you are past the point of no return (when the leech is too open and goes past the mast) - similar to a Laser. I play with the kicker a lot on a run.

Also, when it is time to gybe, it is vital (for me at least) that the crew grabs the kicker strop and physically pulls the boom across - telling the helm when it is about to go - or if it won't go (too much power in the sail/rig).

Then, the crew should follow the boom across the boat unless it is fairly windy and they're best stopping in the middle to stabilize it - normally depends how well the steering has gone! It is something fine tuned over lots of practice.

These are just my views and I hope others will share their thoughts! Keep going though, the N12 is a delightful dinghy, especially if you're lucky enough to sail with your wife as I am too.

Nick,

I'm not sure of your setup but I find that custom cradles on the dinghy trolley (if your setup is a combi trailer / trolley) is the best way.

Some of the road surfaces really are terrible.

Hi Sam

P&B would be the best for a new one, made to order.

Just to say £687.50 raised for the Ukraine appeal from this mast and a few other bits from Jon's garage.

Must be plenty of us who could do the same with N12 bits in our garages !

Hi Paul,

Agree it is the age old problem, especially when you need to let the kicker off as you round the windward mark when you're both hiking on the side as there is none left!

My double floored boats have the advantage of running the lines under the centreboard case & thwart. I will let others offer their thoughts for a AC N12.

Kicker and Outhaul would certainly be required in my view. Not sure what your other 2 lines back to the thwart are, I have a single line for the mast ram.
