General National 12 chat / Ripon Open
26 Sep 2022, 10:07
For those planning on heading to Yorkshire for the Ripon Open, we are suffering with weed. There is rooted weed in similar places to last year plus a few new sites, plus loose weed    that is new. Courses will be set to avoid the rooted weed where possible. However you will have to clear centreboards and rudders frequently. Being realistic, it's not advisable to bring your foiling rudder.

I've not been at the club much over the summer but it has got noticeably worse over the last few weeks.

Let me know if your coming so we can plan numbers.

See you on Saturday.

This year's N12 Open at Ripon Sailing Club is on Saturday 2nd October. The £20 entry includes lunch and hot drinks, please let us know if you have any specific dietary needs. This covers helm and crew, additional non-sailors can be accommodated for £5. We will try to get the prize giving under way as quickly as possible, as we realise that some of you will be needing to get away. For those that can stay longer the bar will be open for those not driving, camping is available if you both wish to indulge.

Yeadon Open is on the Sunday so feel free to camp at Ripon and then join in with the event at Yeadon which is only ½ hour away.

We have an active junior fleet at Ripon and Fiona Spence is keen to get as many of them exposed to double handers as possible. If you are short of a crew, please let us know as soon as possible and we will try to find someone for you.

Please be aware that Ripon is currently experiencing an exceptional level of weed growth and this will affect certain areas of the water. The weed is rooted not floating and in specific locations, we are managing to continue normal club racing. A map of the affected areas will be posted on the notice board so you all know where to avoid.

Folks, at this year's N12 Open at Ripon the £20 entry includes a "Pie & Pea" supper for helm and crew (additional non-sailor supper is £4). This will be served immediately after the prize giving, which we will try to get under way as quickly as possible, as we realise that some of you will be needing to get away. For those that can stay longer some fun and games are being organised by Jennie Clark. Oh, and the bar will be open for those not driving, camping is available if you both wish to indulge.

The galley will be open during the day for lunches and hot drinks.

Yeadon Open is on the Sunday so feel free to camp at Ripon and then join in with the event at Yeadon which is only ½ hour away.

I'm afraid progress requires that we now all go to the Ripon web site and book on for the event – it does help considerably with the planning. Link is: https://www.ripon-sc.org.uk/event/nat-12-open-double-handers-1-1

We have an active junior fleet at Ripon and Fiona Spence is keen to get as many of them exposed to double handers as possible. If you are short of a crew, please let us know as soon as possible and we will find someone for you. We even have the odd adult willing to come out and play in the front of a 12.

The event will be a joint Open with the Enterprises, so it should prove to be very busy and social as well as the usually competitive racing. Hope to see you all at Ripon.

The Ripon Sailing Club open meeting is on 7th October and we look forward to seeing as many vintage, 4 plank, AC and double bottom N12's out sailing together. The water provides good close competitive racing and there will be a galley open through out the day for lunches and refreshments. Camping is available for free on Saturday night for those wishing to spread the traveling over two days or are staying for the Yeadon Open on the Sunday, it's less than an hours drive.

If anyone needs a crew please let me know as we have some good junior sailors who are up for the challenge. If you need a helm I can probably find one as well.

Depending on numbers we can either arrange an evening meal with the galley catering team or Ali will bring in fish & chips while the boats are being packed away. Please let us know if you can make it and what your preference is for an evening meal.

Tim, Ali and family look forward to seeing you.

Ripon Sailing Club look forward to welcoming all National 12 sailors to the club for our annual open meeting on 1st October 2016. As ever a friendly event in great surroundings with a galley open all day. There is the option to camp over night if you want a leisurely drive back or even better be close at hand for the Yeadon Open on Sunday. As before there is the offer of an evening meal with some fun and games, although some idea of numbers would be helpful for our caterers - the sooner the better please.

Tim, Ali and family look forward to seeing you.
