General National 12 chat / Jane Pelling
09 Nov 2021, 10:48
It is with deep sorrow, I announce that my wife Jane passed away 5th November.

Jane will be remembered by many in the National 12 class. It was nearly forty years ago that I met her and in meeting me, she was immediately introduced to the National 12 sailing dinghy. I will always remember taking her for a first sail in my National 12, one sunny afternoon on the River Crouch. She was such a natural in a boat and for me that was the absolute icing on the cake. I could not have been happier. Happiness that stayed with us throughout our lives together.

The National 12 has been an integral part of our lives and it's important I write these few words about Jane. She took part in the open meeting circuit and importantly those wonderful Burton Weeks for many years. Jane was a highly accomplished crew and I am so proud of the fact that she won a championship race before me. Aside from achievements on the water, Jane was a popular figure in the dinghy park and at social events. In later years, Jane spent more time ashore with our three children; Hester, Guy and Freya, who themselves spent much of their growing up in and around the National 12 class.

For those who haven't heard, Mary Stamp sadly passed away on 19th July, so soon after Ewen earlier in the year.

The RHYC are dedicating their annual Bridge Trophy Race on 22nd August to both Ewen and Mary.

All RHYC Members and N12 Sailors are invited, to take part and then gather on the club's lawn after racing.

Entry is now open for the RHYC N12 Open on 10th and 11th July.
Once again the N12 fleet are part of the club's annual Smugglers' Trophy.

Catering all weekend and camping is available 30m up the road (not on the lawn now as the club has a permanent marquee).

We'll be joined by some Phantoms, RS Fevas, Lasers and a handicap fleet - although as usual there will be two course areas and we'll have our own start, probably sharing the water with the Phantoms.

Full details and entry below:
https://www.royalharwichyachtclub.co.uk/events/smugglers-trophy

Any questions, please let me know. Can also help to find crews, in fact have a few already lined up!

Good Evening All,

Just a quick note to let everyone know that you can now enter for the 70th edition of the infamous 'Norfolk Week'!

This year the event runs from 27th July - 3rd August.

No early entry discount, but the organisers would like to know numbers earlier rather than later. Expect a bumper National 12 entry this year too!

Provisional programme - http://www.norfolkweek.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/PROVISIONALDates2019.pdf

Online entry - http://www.norfolkweek.co.uk/entry/

Good Evening All!

The NTOA are pleased to confirm that there are currently 3 boat builders who are willing and able to build new National 12s!

The details are in the link below, including a few options for retro fitting a rudder adjustment system and buying a T foil blade - but more in-depth details about this will be available soon.

So, the Hijack molds are safe with Composite Craft, the DCB is available through Synergy Marine and Simon Hipkin has priced up a production 4 Plank DCB in either Wood, Glass or Carbon.

It is worth noting there is a 10% discount on the Synergy Marine DCB - if 6 are ordered. There are at least 3 potential orders already......

Happy buying

George

Hi All,

Just to let you know entry is now available on the RHYC website for the 12 Gul Series Open on 14/15 July. Unfortunately Merlin Week ends on the day before but I'm reliably informed that most are going to make the journey from Salcombe to Woolverstone in time for the 11 am start on Saturday!

Enter below:

https://www.royalharwichyachtclub.co.uk/events/smugglers-trophy---14th-and-15th-july-2018

There will be a few other classes joining us but we will have our own start.

As usual camping at the club is free, ok to arrive on Friday evening too. If you want a boat or crew let me know and I can try to arrange that.

Who is planning to come along? Hopefully the weather will stick around for the next two weeks and we'll get a sea breeze for the racing!

Hi All,

I've just entered for North West Norfolk Week 2018.

Hi All,

Just a quick reminder that the early entry discount to 12 Fest will stop on 31st May.

Like last year, we'll have a great weekend and learn to sail our 12s faster!

Steve Irish is confirmed for the Saturday and the usual N12 gurus will be helping out on the Sunday.

We had over 20 boats turn up last year - lets try and beat that this year!

Camping is very cheap and is the opposite the car park entrance.

You can sign up here:

Hi All

As Tom mentioned at the AGM, we should do more short sharp racing, so.....

RHYC run two afternoons of sprint racing a year, with 2017's 2nd afternoon being 10th September.

First race is 1330
Entry £5 for non-members

Hopefully see as many 12s out as possible! Last year we had 10 for one of the short sharp racing afternoons, let's beat that!
