Please could someone measure a jib for me on Saturday morning before racing?  Will be there from 10:00.

Jeremy 3519.

I'm one of the few using off-the-boom sheeting, my boat came with this fitted and I have stuck with it.  See photos of 3519 on the boat database.  To me the main positive is you face forward when gybing.  Getting the boom on the centreline upwind is easy because the sheet from centre ratchet block to helms hand gives a strong horizontal component pulling boom to windward.  Because of this you can make the aft split tail a bit shorter than is common for aft main boats.  This allows you to pull down on the leech with the last bit of mainsheet.  Downwind sheet loads get heavy in strong wind, placing the ratchet block on the boom a little aft of the middle helps reduce the load.

Will be good to see you & Sophie.  Have heard from some others too.  Forecast is looking good.

The weather is booked and we look forward to welcome 12s back to Stokes Bay on Saturday.  The NOR is available here: http://www.national12.org/events/2017/Stokes_Bay_NOR_2017.pdf

More details of our club here: http://www.stokesbay-sc.co.uk/

Briefing is at 10:30, first warning 11:25.  The race area is in the Eastern Solent just off the beach with good views for spectators.  The Gul Series is on Saturday and visitors are welcome to stay on to join our club racing on Sunday.  (Sunday  scoring using N12 handicap system for Admirals Cup, non-foilers, foilers.)  Free camping for small tents is available in the dinghy park, just ask and we will find you a space.

It will be great if you can post here to give me an idea of numbers.

In gusty conditions upwind we try to set the rig to power for the lighter patches. So minimal starvation creases, lee shroud just slack when hiking upwind.  Then during gusts pull the kicker on to flatten the sail, making sure to ease again in the lulls.  So the kicker becomes the power control.

Downwind kicker, cunno, outhaul and lee shroud off.  We try to ease the cunno and kicker just before the windward mark for a quick bear away, then slacken outhaul and finally kicker again after the shroud is off.  If it is really windy it pays to keep the lee shroud and / or outhaul on to avoid being overpowered.

I think the lee shroud has the biggest effect on downwind power.  but it is hard to play to gusts so it's generally a decision at the windward mark.

Hopefully Graham or Tom will disclose their secrets to correct me.

Great weekend, very close with Northampton randomness factor leading to lots of place changes, just as 12 racing should be.  Exemplary race management with minimal wait between races.  Thanks to all involved.  Jeremy.

Hi
One of the good things with Stokes is the sail out will be minimal, if onshore wind the start will be a few hundred metres off the beach, otherwise take 5-10mins I guess.

Come and join us for the Stokes Bay Gul Series Open on the 24 September! We have 3 12s at the club, (or 4 if I count both of Nick's boats) and I'm working to drag some lapsed local 12 sailors back on the water for this event.

Start time will be 12:00, up to 4 races back to back will be held.  Official NOR and SI will be posted shortly.  Stokes Bay is on the Eastern Solent near Gosport, easy access to a great race area, with excellent views of racing and the Isle of Wight from the clubhouse.  We have a very experienced and capable race team having run several class championships and major opens.

Camping in the dinghy park is available, or plenty of local accommodation for those who need it. See the club website and / or Facebook pages http://www.stokesbay-sc.co.uk/ https://www.facebook.com/pages/Stokes-Bay-Sailing-Club/165845943457752.

In addition to the open, visitors are invited to stay to join club racing on the 25th, dependent on numbers we may have a separate start and course.  For those race results we propose to award separate prize(s) based on NOA handicaps for AC / DB / Foilers.  There is an additional day fee of £10 per boat for club racing, but for the first 5 visitors to confirm that will be paid by a mystery sponsor!

Great if you can let us know you are coming by posting here or give me a call directly, my number is in the handbook.  Same if you have any questions.

Look forward to it.

Thanks Kevin, perfect. Jeremy.

I'd like to have new sails measured before racing starts, can I make an appointment with a measurer?  We will be there on Friday so Friday pm or Saturday morning would be ideal, usual fees liquid or otherwise available.

I also have some used sails available to sell and will take to the event.

Thanks
