Boats / Re: N2832 Rael

I have owned Rael since January 2020 and have taken the time to give her back her mojo. All fittings have been removed bagged up and it's given me the chance to think control lines. Decided to keep it simple but efficient. After the decks and hull have undergone a refurbishment involving a sanding down and a repaint I shall run the outhaul to under the boom near the onboard end with a 4:1 purchase. Similarly downhaul will be 4:1 led to back of mast on a swivel cleat. Lastly kicker will be a cascade giving 16:1 but led to centreboard box casing and another swivel cleat.
Rael is in great structural condition considering age and I hope all will be done in May 2020. Bought from Jenny Wilson at Upper Thames Sailing Club.

Hi.

Found out something today when looking at paint
Hempel own Crown paints. I was directed to my local Crown decorator store as I wanted marine one pack paint Hempel. Also made up to a non standard colour using the RAL number off the Hempel colour website.
Whilst I haven't got an exact match they were able to order 2.5 litres of the paint I got in the colour I wanted for less than £47. Which works out at £14 a 750ml tin which I thought was great value.  And not from a place I would normally go.

Let you know if it's the worst buy out!

Hi all

I realise this is a long shot but here goes

Does anyone have access to the colours that were used on the Paper Darts?

I am about to set to and refurbish one and would want to try and keep things original.

I know it's a long shot but if you don't ask you don't get!!

Thanks

Hi just to add to what has already been said.  I know Howard looks after Triarda so well and as a result the work done will last a long time. I had 2306 Starfish filleted also by the hog and centreboard and sold her in tip top condition. When I had her back again 4 years later she was in a very sorry state and the water sitting in the hull destroyed the wood around the filleted pieces so in the boat was pretty close to being scrap. If you look after the boat and it's done well you might well get a good outcome. Hope it goes well whatever you decide !!

 Hi Paul
As Someone who has owned three vintage Wyche and coppock national 12s I think I'm quite well-placed to understand the problems you are facing. From my experience the solid wood especially hog keel and centreboard case tends to be the weak parts in the boat. They are vulnerable to time in dinghy park and water getting in under the cover. I have found however that the plywood planking that was used seems to be of very good quality and was able to stand the test of time. You will find when you start peeling things back that the boats are held together with glue and steel screws!! so be careful if you start to cut away with power tools. Whilst it is tempting to patch the centreboard case and hog with new pieces of wood inevitably you will come across recurring issues over time and the only true way to overcome this would be to remove the keel and the hog as much as you can and replace the case which is not an easy job. Brian Herring is a good contact if you want some advice his number is in the book.  Good luck Martin Clarke ex 2306 2708 currently 2576

Is there any interest in the event there are a few cvrda going but this is on the vintage calander so would be good to see either some vintage boats or 4 plank or pre 1985 boats there

Thanks

Message below from Sam Mason who is the main organiser at Hykeham.

Event is a twin event with Cvrda, so a weekend of old boats and probably even older helms but does not have to be the case!

Plan is for the 12s to join in, we can make it a vintage event but it would not preclude 4  planks and ac boats built before 1985.

Details below any indication of numbers will help planning and catering welcomed

Should be an interesting event and a departure from the norm

Thanks

Martin.

Hykeham sail on a large disused gravel pit (100+ acres) just south of Lincoln. Road access is easy via the A1 and A46. Onsite camping is available and the water is a nice shade of blue and weed free.[/size]Can I get a rough idea of who would like to come and what sort of format we want? I would suggest 3 races on the Saturday starting about 1130 followed by 2 races Sunday 1100 start so people can get away at a reasonable time. There is a pub about 1/2 mile from the clubhouse where the RS300s go at feeding time or we could do a BBQ at the club. Kitchen and bar facilities will be available all day both days and the bar could be open for early arrivals on Friday eveningAs Sherlock Holmes said " Give us a clue"Sam
