General National 12 chat / NWNW Camping

Given the succession of early starts and trying to avoid getting up at 4.00am two days running, this year we are looking to switch our normal camping (tent) venue from around the Snetty area to something more central, perhaps Burham or Brancaster based. We have so much clutter we won't really want to up sticks during the week, though we'll move to SBSC on Thursday.

Showers and toilets would be a bonus as would walkable access to refreshment.
Would need to be boat friendly.
Any ideas?

Thanks

NWNW entry is now open £80 for the week. Some cracking early starts. I am looking forward to Brancaster. The shallows at Wells should be easy to spot - our pink Lark will be stuck in them.

Weird,  I started reading this great book again over xmas. It is never far from hand. What this tells you is get your head out of the boat and learn to sail. If you are sailing as well as you can in the limitations of the boat (rare) then a step up in boat will make a big difference. Trouble is rembering that all the time.

I was at Blakeney on Saturday (black car) - no water - rain and plenty of wind. No crabbing taking place. Dog not impressed.

The car park is now £3.00.
Looking forward to going up that creek again.

Quote from: 165Ignore the forecast, we have our own micro-climate in Southend. I have ordered a nice force 3-4 sea breeze with plenty of sunshine, azure coloured water, dolphins frolicking alongside as we go out to the course, and mermaids decorating the beach as we return after sailing.

Kevin

Almost exactly as I remember sailing in Southend! I think

Odd I thought I'd entered for this year way back when this thread first started - however today I got all the bumpf through because I was there last year. I know others who were there last year who have got the same. I'm not sure my cheque was banked (I'll double check that).
Unless anyone knows different I'll drop David a line.
Cheers

Quote from: 119Looking at doing the whole week, but one question...if you enter for the week does this include Saterday at Snettisham or is this a separate event?
Simon

As I read it there is prize giving for the week on Friday at Snetty . Then on Saturaday at 7:30am is the NWNSA Jubilee Trophy - which I don't think is part of the SBSC regatta weekend but we start with them ("single start for all classes").
My entry in already - not sure what craft this year though - but looking forward to seeing the 12s in action. One of our club is talking B14 - that should be interesting in Kings Lynn and getting up Blakeney creek.
A pity about Brancaster - but two days in Wells (as long as there is more water (and slightly less wind) this year!) is great - nothing better than phoning those at work at 10:00am with boat packed up and beer and bacon butty in hand sitting ouside Wells SC in the sun.

As an ex-12 owner and ex-resident of Southend-on-sea I see this as a huge postive for the class. Thorpe Bay YC (I've never been a member but have sailed there a number of times) is a good club off the maninstream Nationals circuit with a good tidal window and good sailing. Well done to the N12 class for organising an event there - I'll start looking at the second hand list again!
My only reservation is it over the same weekend as the Air Tattoo - traffic and parking could be horrendous - get there *very* early.
Does this mean even more !2s for NWNW?

Looking forward to seeing the the N12s out in numbers. Good to have you out in front of us to show us where we should go.

Hunny is looking warm but looking light. We are there all week in the pink again and doing Kings Lynn for the 1st time.

+1 for Jolly Sailors though. Also I think the Heacham beer festival is on the same week!

I think numbers in total will be up on last year - which was absolutely fantastic.

And good sailing not too far away, camp site next door, launching at all states of the tide (just). A real sailing club.

Hols already booked from 26th next year. 2 days at Blakeney is that right?

The cherub is 12ft long and has allowed all sorts of development. It has some active members and produces some interesting boats (though arguably not beautiful) but it's hardly a booming class.

It has the extreme 12ft development class niche and it isn't a big niche.

There might be the potential for self build if the rules were simpler. I wonder how many rules are required?

12ft, monohull, max width x, hiking, 2 crew, 2 sails, no foils, cannot change rig during open events.

I still drool over 12s (there is a lovely D8 our dinghy park) but with a min weight of 25st and a kite enabled crew - it will be just admiring glances.

Or a Lark - sensational amount boat for buck - old boats very competitive. Have to watch the pie consumption though.
