It was obvious from the
moment we arrived at Ely that it was going to be an exciting
days yotting; the wind was from the north blowing over the
elevated clubhouse and the squalls were slamming all over
the water, clearly from different directions!
Race
One was delayed for a time as it was heard that Alayne had
been held up in traffic but in the end we had to start
without her, Suzie crewing for Gerald Copsey whose crew had
failed to recover from her hangover. In very gusty
conditions Gerald led with Jack Knight and George doing
battle behind with Jack taking second place; Paul had to
retire as crew Christine was not well enough to continue.
Race Two saw Suzie crewing for sister Alayne leaving
Gerald without a co-pilot. I (heroically) volunteered to
crew for Gerald – and we won! The race wasn’t without
incident with George and Jack colliding resulting in the
former retiring from the race.
George and Lucy
decided to sit out Race Three as the conditions were
continuing to be very hairy; George and Ted took to the
water but didn’t finish. The male heavyweights beat the
ladies, but girls weren’t that far behind!

An great days sailing with Ely putting on a fab homemade lunch, thanks to the Knight family for their culinary and race officering skills and also thanks to the rescue boat team – who weren’t needed!
