Waldringfield open meeting

11th & 12th April 2009

The annual Waldringfield Easter Egg Regatta attracted a high quality turn out of National 12s with two former National Champions and three past winners of the Inland Championships. The weather on both days was sunny with light breezes (a stark contrast to last year’s snow storms)

The racing throughout was as tactical and difficult as Waldringfield can be. Big decisions on when and where to cross the tide needed to be made in every race. Tom Stewart and Liz Ross had good speed and were able to pull through and win 5 out of the 6 races. Jon Ibbotson and Charlotte Stewart were consistent (discarding a fourth place) to finish second. Antony and Jo Gifford won the second race on Saturday but were unfortunate to find a hole in race 6 and mistakenly restarted in race 5 mistakenly believing that they had been on course side otherwise they might have been closer to the lead.
