Chipstead Open Meeting

Four boats raced at Chipstead in lightish and somewhat flukey conditions on 24th June. Race 1 in a force 1-2 with holes all round the lake, saw all boats in the lead at various times before Mike Day and Anne Murch came though on the second lap to win from the fast finishing Bob and Maggie Murrell, with Mike and Alex Storey third. The start for race 2 was set at the far end of the lake. With places changing all the way up the first beat, it was Richard and Emma Ball who finally took the lead and stretched away to take the win, from Mike and Anne, with Mike and Alex again third.

With all to play for in the final race, Bob and Maggie opted for their venerable Proctor Mark 6. Mike and Alex led around the first mark and then held their nerve through the tricky conditions as Richard and Emma pursued them closely, with Mike and Anne hitting marks some way back. On the last beat however, the two leading boats sailed into a windless hole and Mike and Anne kept wind along the far shore to narrowly take the race and the meeting.
