About the Proctor Mark VIII

In 1958 the first fully planing N12 was designed, representing the most important land mark in the development of the class. The Proctor Mark VIII instantly outclassed all previous designs in open water conditions. The design was extremely popular in the late 50s and early 60s.

The Mark 8 had a low freeboard and flared topsides reaching 5 ft 6 in beam allowed the Mk 8 to take full advantage of the power of terylene sails, and made it the first fully planing 12.
